Wow, fascinating BIOS updates... Here's what I find more interesting:

1. "Support Merom 6F1 CPU" - That's incredibly promising. I'm looking forward to slapping a Merom in this thing in a year or so, and sticking out my tongue at all those folks who gave us early Core Duo adopters a hard time for going 32-bit...

2. "945 power saving optimization erratum" - Could this possible be related to the USB power issue? Or, perhaps something else we don't even know about?

3. "Slow down hard drive to Ultra Mode 5" - Why, I wonder?

HD performance, hdtach result:
1. Linear Read Speed didn't change, 33.3M
2. Random Access Time increased, from 15.9ms to 16.0 ms
3. Buffer Read Speed decreased, from 125M to 117M

what is Merom 6F1 CPU?

This might be a stupid question, but: When updating your bios, does the new bios contain all updates of prior updates? In other words, should you sequentially update using each, or is that a waste of time?

Yes, all previous updates should be included in the last bios realase.

About this last one, I was updating from 3312 and what it seems to me now is that my system goes faster, I mean the Hdd works better then before, it is booting up more quickly.

Further more about the Video, I am using the notebook connected to an external DVI-D LCD monitor, before the update I had to type windows login data looking at notebook lcd because, when booting up, it was sending the video output for a while to the external monitor, then back to notebook lcd. Once I have typed login data, then the image was going back to external LCD.
With this update the image and login window is now displayed into external monitor only, there is no more video output bouncing between the two monitors.

I've applied the new BIOS, and can't tell any difference in performance--except, perhaps, the system _did_ seem to boot a bit faster. Otherwise, everything seems fine.

I'd be interested to know what the power management fix is, though...

Some of my ATI Tool profiles has became corrupt, though.
Seems they have played with core and mem settings

got many problems with linux after bios 3315 update. the worst one was the system that cannot boot into linux anymore. I'm using Slackware current with kernel 2.6.16.20 recompiled for my 8204. after bios update, got a message that vfs cannot found device /dev/sda... annoying when you know it is the HDD of the laptop... got back to bios version 3313, and problem gone...

Please pardon my stupidity, but how does one upgrade its laptop drivers?
I have downloaded them, unpacked. It wants to install "WinPhlash" I am not sure that I want to do that.
Would somebody be kind enough to explain the process a bit further?
Install WinPhlash, start it, browse for new bios file (*.WPH), click "Flash BIOS", wait untill it finish... Do it with battery fully charged or on AC. BTW, I wouldn't call BIOS "a driver"...
