I'm having problems with my Uncle's computer, his laptop is identical to mine but with minimal upgrades, as I've given mine a good duse of Steroids. But basically it appears that he has problems with Explorer failing to startup, and I get the error-

Explorer.EXE Application Error

The Application failed to initialize properly (oxc000005). Clink on OK to terminat the Application.

And yes I tried to go to safe mode but no luck.

What suggestions do you have? In about 10 mins or after dinner I'm going to do a windows Repair, I hate the idea of losing the files on his computer though.....

That isn't good.

Though, running Windows repair will not remove all the data. It should fix it.

If not, and you have to start over, just slip his harddrive in your computer, backup all his stuff to your harddrive then reformat his, and send the stuff back to him.

dark,
I think your SOL. you an use unbuntu or other bootable programs that browse the HDD outside of windows....then plug in a USB Drive of some sort, and get all the files you can....if you can....then re-format.
