Ferrari 4005, should I consider to buy?

Thread Starter
I am planning to buy an Acer Ferrari 4005 WLMI bcs of its 64bit Turion and other good specs. I would like to run Vista on it but I am not sure if it is just a dream or not . Some ppl say that I should go for a 8204 but I don't think it's worth the price. Is Core Duo that good? Will it run Vista?

What's more I don't want to pay for a webcam, a VoIP phone, or a huge 120 GB hdd.

On the other hand, Ferrari 4005 doesn't have DDR2 ram.

What are your suggestions??

Thanks

If you would have asked this months ago I would have said go for it. But with Windows Vista being within a year of launch date, Direct X10 cards on the horizon, I would probably wait. But if you need it now I can reccommend the Ferrari 4005. I've had a few problems with mine but I have nothing but good things to say about Acer Tech Support, at least here in Canada.

4 month with my F4005, I am very pleased with him. With a Fresh install of XP SP2 (15 running processus), it's rocks. I use this laptop for scientific applications. I like the LCD very wide . The HD is fast enougth for me (XP boot within 15s)

You might wait to see if Acer puts out a new version with the dual core turion once it becomes available (probably in a few months). This way you'd probably have a much better graphics card, a dual core processor. I don't know that ddr2 will make too much of a difference b/c from the desktop benchmarks there wasn't a large difference between ddr400 and ddr2 800 so I would be there won't be much difference betwween ddr333 and ddr2 667.

Sounds like mine; 15 running processes, fast XP boot. The last day or so my laptops been stuttering, but only when the Hard Drive light lights up, I'm download 35 GB of The Simpsons and its around 30 GB and it's been on for a week, so once that's done I'll move it to my external drive and everything should be back to normal.

For the price ($1800-2000) you can get better deals nowadays so I dont think its worth it.. take a look at some asus and msis, even dells (although dell doesnt have any 64 bit processor notebook yet)

xp-64 is not worth it really for mainstream home use.

i prefer you get media center 2005. you'll love it=) get a media center remote/ and usb 2.0 MCE CERTIFIED !!!! tv tuner and you're set=)

I agrre with Corrado, Windows x64 is overhyped, you won't notice any performance increase and the instability/lack of support will have you wishing you stuck with 32bit.

Ferrari 4005 is great... have owned mine since December 2005 and loving it! (In fact, typing this message on it now!)

Stylish looks, very acceptable performance, great gaming capabilities. Wide screen is very nice and the battery life is usually 1.5 hours for me or thereabouts.

Recommended.
