Please walk me away from the Cliff!

I am looking for advice, not a flame war....

I love my M170, but I am becoming frustrated with the process of pc gaming vs the ease of console gaming.

My next door neighbor has a XBox360 and just pops in Oblivion and starts playing in beautiful 720p w/ built in surround. I (on the other hand) had to buy a $80 audigy card just to get the surround, had to uninstall some stuff (cause I'm running out of harddrive space), had to defrag my harddrive (which took forever), and then I couldn't even run the game to my liking without some serious tweaking (that I'm still not done with). Meanwhile he's having a great time and I'm spending mine in ini. files...... (Not to mention he can play Fight Night and NCAA Football which will never come out on PC)

I love the M170 because it is portable (I travel alot) and because I can use it for other things (such as movie editing). However, its starts to get frustrating when you spend more time defraging, deleting, tweaking, editing, than you do PLAYING!!!!!

Not to mention the fact that in a few months (if not already) my M170 will be worthless since it won't be able to play DX10 games (which I'm sure a PS3 or XBox360 will.....) Meanwhile, the 360 and PS3 will only get better as developers learn how to maximize them

Finally, I can RENT games for these while I have to buy the PC versions and its hard as heck to return PC games or sell back PC games vs console games if you don't like it....

I'm thinking about just selling the thing and buying a 360 and I'll still have money left over for a decent laptop.....please tell me where I am wrong?

If you don't enjoy doing that stuff, if you don't enjoy tweaking your computer or upgrading it, and you refuse to put >100$ in upgrades, then I seriuosly think you should get a console and join that xbox 360 REvolution.

I mean all I can say is not enough space on your HDD? Get a new HDD
Not enough Memory? Get more memory....

I mean I think you have to accept the fact that with certain aspects of owning a PC, you're going to have to buy some upgrades...

As for me I love my PC, my xbox 360 just collects dust, but then again I went from gaming 20+ hours a week to 15 mins a week, lol.

Hey if you're not using that 360, I'll gladly take it off your hands...

It's really not that I don't love the pc (if that were the case, I would have sold it when it had more value). Just at some point the cons(oles) are beginning to outway the pros.

your m1710 cant play oblivion?!
my tweaked m170 plays it extremely well on all high [although i cant have hdr and aa at the same time]
just tweak about a little bit more and upgrade if you have to. buy an external hard-drive for storing your videos/music/porn/other av chicanery and buy more mana...er, i mean ram. a computer is something that you continually have to invest in, because of its nature.

From what I understand this is actually a limitation of the nVidia cards, as the x1900 is able to do it.

also believe it or not i was on that same boat.

i had an m170 and just sold it for an xbox 360 BUT i used the left over money and bought the insp 9400 u see in my sig from dell outlet. so i have my cake and eat it too.... well sorta. no 7900 gtx but it might be possible later if i need or want it. as of right now though this xbox 360 its amazing. out of the box power which will get better. great eye candy for the cost of a desktop graphics card

Or just travel like I do ?..

Simple really, if you want nothing but games and don't need to travel then it's the 360, else the laptop (or both)...
