Sat- 1415-S173 parts hunt.. need help

ok, i just got a stripped Sattelite 1415-S173 (PS141U-01F3WV) from a friend. he stripped the Ram, HDD (including the Insulation, Bracket, & Screws), and the Mini PCI WiFi Card for his new laptop. dont ask, b/c i dont know y

The reason im posting is b/c i am having a hell of a time finding "Reasonable Prices" for parts. i have the list from Toshiba's Parts Dept.

Stock Parts & Considerations
HDD - MK3018GAS - $123.00
its only a 30gb 5200rpm drive.. would like somenthing a little faster maybe bigger, but i dont know what drives are compatable with this thing, Specs or Physical Size. need major help needed here..

HDD Insulation - P000316400 - $6.00
you know the silver bag the drive slides into.. no biggie, and its pretty cheap

HDD Bracket - P000347730 - $9.00
little pricey but its needed, also not too big of a problem.

HDD Screws - $8.00 (X4) - P000339380
Holy Crap.. there just small screws and they want $32 for 4 of them!!

Mini PCI Wi-Fi - P000339520 - $222.00
Woah!! i thought the Screws were bad.. this is insane. i really want to get the same model as the laptop had stock so i dont need to load any new drivers after running the restore disks.

So... what i really need the help with is the HDD, Wi-Fi card, & Screws. if i knew that a regular 2.5" moble drive from Newegg would work i would just grab one from them, like a 7200 rpm 60gb Drive, but i dont think it will fit in the case, will it? if i knew the brand and model of the Wi-Fi card i could just search for it but i cant find the name..

Thanx in advance

A for the HDD, get one from new egg. They are all the same and any 2.5" drive will work fine (except for the serial ata ones). I recently got a 40gb 5400rpm drive for $65 + shipping and noticed the other day that they've come down a bit more.

The ram you link to in the second post looks like a very decent price. Plus being kingston, and newegg, you've got some really good backing in case it doesn't work for whatever reason.

I've seen sets fo screws (like 10 or so mixed screws) on ebay go for about $10. I also picked up a aluminum HDD caddy for my tecra for like $15 and I've seen the mini pci wifi cards for about $20-$30. The HDD insulation and bracket don't look that expensive so I'd get those so you're guaranteed that they're the right ones.

In other words, get the HDD and the RAM from newegg, the HDD bracket and insualtion from Toshiba and search for the screws and wifi card on ebay. All of it shouldn't run you more than $150 (depending on the size of teh HDD of course)

well as far as the drive goes i was worried to just buy a 2.5 drive from newegg b/c they only have a couple that are 9.5mm in hight. are all 2.5 drives this hight and its just lack of specs on newegg and the net alltogether? i was kinda wanting a 7200 rpm drive which i cant find for less then $145 ($175+tax & Ship for a 60gb 9.5mm 7200rpm hatichi drive, with bracket, insulation, and screws at one site i found).
newegg doesnt have any 9.5mm 7200 rpm drives at all...

sorry for all the confusion..
i have built plenty of desktops, just never had a notebook b4, lol

thanx again

I hope this will fit the notebook, lol but it looks as tho ppl are upgrading to this drive in their toshibas... twisting fingers, since i know squat about laptops

Have you thought about EBay and getting a parts machine. That would solve most all your problems

It must be the modem

no i think the modem is the one in the top right corner.. above the battery

Sorry. I didn't have a picture. I looked at the specs and I don't see any other options. The Wi-fi is an option, so I wonder if that cover gives access to where the antenna hooks up. You may need someone who has direct experience with that model.

look at the photo in post 8

Yes I looked at that photo. Also at the one on the Toshiba site. I couldn't find any reference to anything going there. The thing I couldn't find was a photo that labeled that cover. It is right next to the mini-pci slot where a wireless card could go. That's why I thought it might be access for an antenna. I know that when Toshiba lists wi-fi as an option, they usually don't equip the laptop with an antenna, unless the machine actually ships with the wireless card.

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptop...ba_1415_04.jpg

the ones with arrows are the: Modem, Wireless Mini PCI, and Mem

The bottom ones are the HDD, and Battery

Wht goes in the Top Left space??? someone has to know

that connector can be found on almost any motherboard, although many of them are not exposed like this one, must be either bluetooth or some kind of internal diagnostics connector.
