what i need to add media center/tv to our acer laptops? ferrari 4005 to be specific.

can you use built in ir for remote control or no? please post your thoughts! thanks

You can't add Microsoft's Windows Media Center, if that's what you mean. That's a separate OS, and must be purchased/installed that way.

There are other nice solutions, however, that will allow for PVR capabilities with remote control support. You'll have to add an external tv tuner, of course. One good application is Beyond TV by Snapstream (www.snapstream.com). I use it on my desktop and love it. Add a Hauppauge USB 250 tuner, and it's works very nicely.

Good luck!

Not true. You can download Windows Media Centre and buy this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...5&sku=M17-7900

and using infrared port as a remote controler receiver is just a matter of remote controler and a proper driver... I've seen the software somewhere...

When you say "download Media Center," what do you mean, exactly?

I mean go to your favorite torrent site, download Media Center, burn it to a cd, install. And if you haven't used torrents before, all you need is a client. You'll find Google can be your best friend

I would definitely not be paying $200+ for something shipped to me from Australia 2 months later when all I need is the remote and I can download Media Center in 1 hour. Why are some people dead-set against downloading? I just have 1 quick question. Suppose you invented a way to freeze time, would you walk into a store and take what you wanted? I know I would...

I thought these forums we're to help people not to bash them for making a comment. Why the hell would you send me a link to ebay.co.au then? Do you just regularily use eBay Australia for all your american purchases?

@Corrado
Are you using the built-in infrared? And if so, did you need any extra software? Thanks.

**Sorry for the thread hijack Corrado85 it's just theft/hacking/encouraging illegal activity shits me**

These forums are to help people, not for promoting illegal activity.

I sent the link from .au because that's the ebay domain I'm registered with. You do know that Ebay operates all around the world don't you?

Theft?

OK, Fine, I will give Microsoft back their disc...wait..they already have the original? Then how could I have stolen it? Hmmm...
So if I get my digital camera and take a picture of you is that kidnap?
Not all of us have $250 to spend on an OS, and these forums are to help people, and believe it or not some people resort to downloading *gasp*

It was nice of you to throw in the cheap remark at the end making me look like an idiot, but you being the smart one should know that it doesn't matter what eBay domain you registered with, because you can still login from any of them. I'm from Canada and I just logged into eBay.com, pretty groundbreaking stuff.

For the record, I've downloaded my copy of XP Pro, downloaded all my software, my music, my games, and my movies. So you may feel all warm and cozy at night but I couldn't care less if Microsoft has to subtract $200 from their $50 billion profits. I'll cuddle up in all my saved money.

It's copyright theft, whether you agree with it or not. Anyway, i'd download it via my MSDN account if I could be bothered to do a clean install on a laptop which I can't right now seeing MCE doesn't do upgrades.

Tell me why would I log into Ebay.com? My bookmark is for Ebay.com.au and I get logged in automatically so why would I log out just to look for products outside Australia.

Look I have said harsh comments towards you but that's because the only thing I know of you is your software pirating ways. I know it doesn't seem bad but if we all did it (the piracy thing) the software/music/gaming companies would just say stuff it and stop doing it.

It's a complex issue and I agree they have long made a packet off us but if you want it, you download it, you use it. What if we all did that, why not steal the neighbours car, a bottle of coke (we all know coke won't miss one bottle), fill up the car with petrol and do a runner (they're making a motsa at the moment). I think it's because it seems invisible, you can't be physically seen doing it, you wouldn't walk into a store and steal MCE off the shelf would you? Why not?

Anyway, I'm not going to change who you are via a foruma nd your not going to change me so lets just peace out otherwise this thread will end up like this .

Sounds like a plan And yes it is the whole "invincible" thing, I wouldn't steal it off a store shelf, but, If I could freeze time, I would take whatever I wanted from stores. I really don't have a big budget and if I enjoy a certain album I will buy it. However with software theres so much freeware out there and some of the asking prices are very steep for certain software.
