First off, I'd like to thank all the people in these forums for helping me choose my first Alienware computer. All the comments, reviews, photos, and other information I found helped influence my decision!

Two nights ago on May 2, 2006 I ordered an Area-51 m5500 with the following specs:

Processor: Intel Pentium M 760 2.0GHz 2MB L2 Cache 533MHz FSB
Display: Alienware m5500 15.4" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD
Motherboard: Intel 915GM + ICH6 Chipset
Memory: 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 533MHz - 2 x 512MB
Hard Drive: 80GB 7200 RPM ATA100
Video/Graphics Card: 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1600
Sound Card: Intel High-Definition Audio
Optical Drive: 24x10x24 CD-RW / 8X DVD Combo w/Software MPEG2 Decoder

Final Price: $1,838.00 (includes free shipping and a $200 instant rebate)

Now I'm in the Phase Game! The anticipation is killing me. I'm here for the moral support

Progress:

Phase 1: May 2
Phase 2: ---
Phase 3: May 3
Phase 4: ---
Phase 5: May 8
Phase 6: ---
Phase 7: ---
Phase 8: May 9 (failed to pass QC first time; sent back to Phase 5 for one day)
Phase 9: May 11
Phase 10: May 11 (4:28 PM)

Order Shipped! Expected Delivery Date: May 18

Arrived!
May 18 -- on time!

Congrats, n-kei. That's a heck of a price for everything you have in your config. Good luck in the phase game.

Just one question - have you seen the 1920x1200 display on a 15.4" notebook? Not saying you won't like it - just a note that it is a lot of pixels for a smallish display. But, that said, others have it and seem to really like it!

I was wondering about that myself... we'll see how it turns out. Hopefully my teenage eyes will be up to the task!

Aw shucks - if you are a teenager, you'll have no problem! Plus, it's relatively easy to scale up the font size when you're just surfing. The WUXGA is also great for photoshop and other apps.

After prodding Alienware with an e-mail asking about the status of my order, they sent me a reply: "Your system willl be entering production this week. There are no parts on backorder. Rest assured we are putting forth our best effort in delivering the system to you as soon as possible." Finally, some hope that it will get here within a reasonable amount of time!

LOL - 5 days to production - you ain't seen nothin' That hardly even counts as being in the phase game.

Seriously - systems seem to be coming out pretty fast, especially the m5500s. I waited almost a month for mine - but it was worth it.

Checked this morning and I'm at PHASE 8, BABY!

I guess newcomers like me will never get to experience the agony of what ordering from AW used to be like :P

I hit PHASE 9 this morning! Prepared for shipping! Overall, not bad with the phase game.

My system apparently didn't pass QC the first time through and was sent back to Phase 5 for about a day. Whatever it was, it got sorted out quickly, because I'm now at Phase 9! Almost there!

Hang in there n-kei. Similar thing happened to me (back to phase 5), and my machine has been perfect since day one...so let's hope you'll have the same experience.

Hehe, thanks for keeping up with my progress, shazza... it's definitely made the process more bearable

Now, I just hope it's delivered in time for me to be able to use it in a PowerPoint presentation I'm scheduled to deliver to my English class on May 18. I could use my teacher's computer, but it's a crappy Dell. Plus, maybe the glowing Alien head on the case will be distracting enough to take the class' attention away from what's probably going to be a miserable presentation!

Hey n-kei,

Those last few days are brutal for waiting! Mine is coming tomorrow (5/13)!!! I know this because my FedEx shipping shows it arrived at their depot here in NJ this afternoon! On the truck tomorrow morning for delivery! It is like Christmas Eve tonight for me.

The 18th will come soon enough. Hang in there!

Lucky you! I'm on the other side of the country in Oregon, so it might take some time for FedEx to deliver my system. They've consistently been one or even two days early with their past deliveries, so I'm sure they'll work their delivering magic again and get it here nice and speedily.

Only two more days n-kei!

congrats on your new machine ! I ordered prety much the same thing except the 1920x screen. I took the WideSXGA+. I think it's the more «normal» one for the 15,4'' lappy. But if you like it small :P go for it

Have fun while in the phase game, it will be at your door sooner than you think.

Thanks! I expect it to arrive very soon now, either tomorrow or the day after... soon I'll be able to go to my regular LAN parties and embarrass my friends with a computer that's considerably smaller and easier to haul than everyone else's desktops and give them all a run for their money!

Great photo gallery on your m5500, Opti! Seeing those photos convinced me that the m5500 was the computer for me. When I get mine I'll make sure to post some pics as well.
