In all honestly, I haven't notice anything where I need to scroll more on the S96J than I do on my desktop. I actually really love gaming in widescreen though.

As for USB draining the battery, I believe that problem was mostly fixed.

Talking about gaming which games ppl are usually playing that will test the limit of the hw available on S96J.

Thanks.

Battlefield 2, it's great.

I play Oblivion on my and its very nice with textures set to high and view distance at 100%, everything else is in the 25%50% range.

I will also try F.E.A.R. Combat when its finished downloading and post results.

As said above, BF2 is a very good game, up until patch 1.3, but heh hopefully 1.4 will fix that.

I play lots of CS:S and I can not wait to play Team Fortress 2. The X1600 pwns the HL2 engine, so it will just fly.

Anyways folks, I returned mine and got a Lenovo N100 from office depot for 700 dollar (after 250 in mail in rebates). I get builtin bluetooth, fingerprint reader and a solid keyboard and zero reflection :-) as the screen is not Glossy (thank God, I don't know who came up with the glossy screen idea).
Battery times are in 3 hours or so with 6 cell battery. I think S96J may be a good laptop if you are a serious gamer, (and I am not a gamer at all). For others who use their laptop to connect to their company networks or for paying bills etc or surfing etc it was an overkill.

Have fun.

Thanks.

PS: A week later, still no complains with lenovo N100. Also got bluetooth logitech mouse today and it works perfectly with the laptop's built in bluetooth. On S96J I would had to put a clumsy bluetooth usb adapter. To top all this, it only cost me around 700 bucks (assuming I get my rebates).

Hey guys. After doing extensive research trying to find the right laptop for me, I settled on a S96J from Gentech. I appreciate all the information that is here and elsewhere that helped in my decision making. I think I made a good choice, a good mixture of price and performance, but I'll have to wait until I receive it to know for sure. I made the purchase yesterday, so hopefully by the end of next week I'll get it. This is the configuration I went for:

S96J Asus S96J Core Duo Barebone 15.4 Inch WXGA/ATI X1600 256MB/Built-in Camera 1 $665.00 $665.00
Non-Refundable, exchange for same item only: I Agree
Windows XP Home CD $95 $95
Installation: Hardware and Windows Software Install
Warranty: Standard Warranty
CPU: Intel® Merom Core2-Duo 64 bit T7200 2.00GHz 4M 667 FSB $355.00 $355.00
RAM: Corsair 2GB DDR-2 667 SODIMM (2X1024) $190.00 $190.00
HD: Hitachi 7K100 80GB 7200rpm S-ATA $149.00 $149.00
Internal Wireless Card: Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945 Tri-mode 802.11a/b/g $38.00 $38.00
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound $3.00 $3.00
Display: 15.4" WSXGA 1280X800 Color Shine
GPU: ATI Mobility X1600 256MB PCI Express
Optical Drive: CDRW/DVD Combo Drive
Webcam: Built-in Webcam

Total: $1,495.00

(They just started offering the Core2's yesterday when I ordered mine, I wasn't aware of that, so thanks to Ken at Gentech for letting me know and changing my order after I had originally ordered it with the T2500.)
