888x - no audio

Hiya all

Although Ilve had my 8887 for a couple of years, I am just now learning about the A/V features.

In the process of exploration, I now have managed to get no audio from my computer.

IIn WIN XP Pro it is set at laptop stereo speakers and no sound from either a DVD or a music CD.

What is your recommendation?

thanks

Open your Master Volume window and be sure CD Player, Wave, and SW Sync are visible and NOT muted. In this window click Options and either Properties or Advanced Controls and decide whether you need more items "on".

Get to the Master Volume window via either the System Tray, Speaker, right-click, Open Volume Control, or Control Panel, Sound and Audio Devices, Volume tab, Device Volume, Advanced button.

Be sure, of course, you haven't turned off all volume via an Fn-key setting.

This also presumes you have basic sound drivers installed, Realtek or otherwise.

Hiya MrM

I've check the Master Volume countless times along with the other sound feature where one can set the type of speakers.

Two days ago, before I started the dual display thing, I was able to play audio CDs. I had never tried to play a DVD on this machine.

Drivers are installed

However, I can play and hear an mp3 file residing on the hard drive.

So, somewhere along the line, I've screwed up a setting.

thanks

Even more weird.

Audio CDs now play with appropriate sound output as well as the mp3 files.

However, the two DVDs I've been struggling with for hours only display the video, but absolutely not the foggiest hint of sound.

What now?

It's a cd/DVD combo drive.

thanks

1. Be SURRRE you have all those devices in Master Volume enabled, like Wave and SW Sync.
2. Try Stereo Headphones instead of Laptop Stereo.
3. Check Device Manager, CD\DVD brand device, right-click for Properties, tab for Properties, check and uncheck "Enable Digital CD Audio" and see if it makes a difference.
4. Check your DVD Player Software for any settings that might effect it.

Good luck!

1. All enabled
2. Stereo headphones did not induce DVD sound
3. Unchecked "enable Digital CD Audio" made no difference
4. WIN Media Player options checked, no changes needed. No other DVD Player software is apparent.

Sigh. The drive iis a Toshiba DVD-Rom SD-R6012

THanks, MrM

I had recently updated WIndows Media Player 10 and evidently that's what caused the problem with DVD sound. SInce I had not played a DVD on this system, did not recognize the problem.

However, installing this download fixed the problem. Now have sound along with video when playing a DVD.

THank you very much..... now have to learn about CODECs

Just to update you...

I took the computer to the church today and hooked it up via s-video, the only option, to the RCA HomeTheatre at the other end of the church.

No problem at all getting the graphics to display correctly on the RCA. However, there was no sound.

Does s-vid NOT include a sound signal? Is it only images?

The software ran well, but it would be nice to be able to send sound signals.

THanks again.

Just video according to Google. Try an audio cable from your headphones jack to your Audio In connection on your projector or speaker system.

OK, but first I have to get an audio cable that will work with the amplifier.

I took with me today the lime green audio cable that works with the Dell W1700 tv at home, but that connector did not fit in the amplifier.

THanks for your help, it is deeply appreciated. I am learning a lot.

By the way, at home with the audio cable connected, the sound is very low in volume even with the volume up all the way on the Dell tv and on my computer. So there is still something that needs tweaking.

Any ideas?

Ref. your volume prob., check the volume levels on Wave, SW Sync, etc., in your Master Volume window.

Ain't that the truth. I got my first CP/M PC in 1982.

All levels in VOlume Controls were at least half way to high. Set them all now to the highest volume and will check if that improves things a bit later as I did not rehook up my Sager to the Dell when I got home today.
