Well 7900gtx is in the 9400 and the bios see's it, dell drivers load ok, but the scores seem low in 3dmark05/06?

The Core Freq is 500mhz
and the mem freq is 600mhz are these the setting for the 7900gs?
Looks like the dell bios is limiting it?

Ouch!!! that sucks. Take it back and get a 7900GS. You got pretty good 06 points though. Looks like the Yonah is paying off. Nice CPU Score. Congrats.

First off, how did you get ahold of a Go7900GTX in the UK?? Take it out of an m1710? I didn't know the UK got deliveries of them yet. Congrats.

Now as for you questions:

1) The 7900GS is only running at an envelope of 20w, I'm willing to bet the clocks are much lower than that of the 7900GTX.
2) Why are you asking us if the BIOS is limiting it? Try rebooting and going into the BIOS. Look under System Devices and look at Video. Does it say "Dell Go 7900GTX 512meg"? Then look at the Power Adapter page. Does it show 130w adapter? Are you even using a 130watt brick?

Any modifications needed to plug the 7900 into the 9400? Do you still need to take out the keyboard post and bend the heatpipes?

I really don't think so.

Would a bios flash similar to the one used for the 9300 to XPS Gen 2 work?
what does rivatuner say about the pipes and verts? should say 24/8
post #18 of 81
In order to install it you would still have to remove the metal around the left fan vent. No other mods inside the case should be necessary. The heatpipes should have the right shape, and the card should have the notch out for the keyboard post already.

But if the BIOS doesn't recognize the card, then it doesn't know to give it more power from a 130watt brick. So another hacked BIOS would be a good thing.

The 7900GS is a 35w card (not 20w).
