7900GTX works in a 9400! - Page 2

Would a 7900GS get that much in 3DMark05? Anyone got any links to 7900GS benchmark results?

Cheers

But if the BIOS doesn't recognize the card, then it doesn't know to give it more power from a 130watt brick. So another hacked BIOS would be a good thing.

Correct the metal around the heatsink does need removing, but the keyboard post is fine, I used a 130w brick, so it should take the right power. just thought it should show hifher clock speeds like the 7800gtx? is the stock speed 500/600 on these?

It would be similar to a 7800GTX.

Nice work! Will be sweet once you work out the kinks.

Ran it again and much better!

Looks like it fully supports it! what an upgrade for the 9400

What'd you do? I think that score's about right. Does the P-M bottleneck the 7900GTX?

those are the stock speeds on the Quadro FX25000m so it is probably the same for the 7900gtx.

Do you have a Nvidia Card 7900GTX with 512mb? your frequency is better than Geforce7800GTX with the same temperature and the same wat. it is a good result, but at what cost? Your card is surely 7900GTX. 7900GS score 6200/6300 in 3dmark2005. 7800GTX can arrive near 8000, you are on 8500 points. it is very good.

Just had a look at the 9400 pricing to see how cheap you can get one equivalent to the M1710 without the graphics card - by the time you add the processor upgrade, ram and screen it brings it up to the cost of the spec with the 7900GTX I was looking at for the M1710!

Yea it 's true, the inspiron XPS however has other little "exclusive" feature...
Considering that in Italy we have only Precision M90... No XPS for italy...

If the mod definitely works ok, I'll maybe keep an eye on the outlet, you can sometimes get a good spec of machine there for cheap and I'm sure there will be more 9400s than M1710s there.

T2500, 1gig, 60gig 7200rpm, DVD burner, Go7800 = 957$

Add a 500$ video card and I'm still well below the cheapest deal for an m1710 w/ 7900GTX.

MBOSYS, how did you get ahold of a 7900GTX? And you're saying the BIOS shows the video card correctly? Can you take pictures of your machine and that screen please.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't it means that you can install it in M170 as well?!

Yey!!!

I'm in the UK, not the US - the starting price for a basic spec 9400 here is 850 pounds (1600 dollars), upgrading just the processor is a whopping 900 dollars.
