Why every time i plug something on the usb port, windows xp tells me that it can perform fast if i connect the divice to a 2.0 port?

i have all the windows updates and SP2, i know my m170 has 2.0 ports right?

Check in your BIOS and make sure your USB device is at 2.0 and not 1.1 .

Did you reinstall the OS and forget to install the Notebook System Software driver? The NSS has stuff for USB support in it.

make sure the notebook has 2.0

chances are even if you didnt install the notebook system software, xp has wat its needs to operate the stuff at 2.0 speeds.

my usb worked fine with nothing but xp installed. used an external hd to transfer all my driver files from dell. install went just fine, and xp seemed to treat the ext drive as usb20 was speedy fast.
