Latitude D620 with Quadro Review - Page 9

Since I'm in the middle of know where shipping and taxes where pretty high for me so that $650 off was for most of the shipping and taxes. Roughly over $2K for all the stuff I mentioned. I got the 4yr warranty with complete care, not the standard 3yr or less that most people get, so this also had a factor in the price. Other than that I'm pretty happy with the laptop, overall not the best but good for my needs.

I got the LG screen and my D620 came yesterday.

There is leakage of light at the bottom.

It doesnt even compared to a Inspirion 6000 screen which I did compared to side by side.

It seems like there a band of darkness at the top and if you move your head top to bottom, you can see it when you move the screen up/down.

Can I call Dell and request the Samsung screen?

I phoned up dell and said straight up I'm not going to put up with this, If I'm not getting a Samsung screen I'm just going to straight up send the whole thing back and exchange it. They shipped me a screen, its now in the post office for me to pick up, ya its samsung

So how did you guys till it was not a Samsung screen? As I posted earlier just looked on the support site and it says Samsung so I'm assuming it's a Samsung screen. Can you guys posts pics of non Samsung screens so I can compare? For you guys out there for who have the Samsung screen, can you post pics as well?

usually the screen is branded (either on the metal bezel itself, or on a sticker label). if you are still confused, you can use powerstrip to check the manufacturer once the screen is installed...

Installed Powerstrip and not sure if this is the Samsung screen or not. It does not say Samsung but it says SEC4457, is this the Samsung screen (model)? Am I suppose to look at a specific place?

SEC = samsung. congrats but it's still not that great IMO... that's why i got the M1210 and swapped in my 700m screen.

hopefully my samsung screen is at least better than the POS Auo I have,

Ya I know what you mean. Looking at the screen I have the screens that other people have must be really bad, cause at the top of my screen it still looks gray and not as bright.

I've contacted our corporate rep at Dell telling that I want to exchange the D620 for another model. Was thinking of the getting the M1210 as well. Actually, at the time of purchase had it narrowed down to the D620 and M1210, guess make the wrong choice on that. How do you like the M1210? Assuming that the screen is much better. See in your signature that its the AUO screen, is it better on the M1210? How does everything else run? Can you post some pics?

the M1210 screen is definitely better than the D620 screen. the old 700m screen is even better than the M1210 (better viewing angles). my M1210 with the 700m AUO screen is now perfect!! i love it and it's definitely the best looking laptop dell has to offer IMHO. i've only had it for couple days so i haven't been able to use it extensively yet, but so far it is great. i'm really excited to use the webcam to record lectures next year

Additional Followups

I am still pleased with my refurb D620. I finally have it hooked up to the Dell2007WFP. After some tweaking, I am satisfied with the viewing between the two. I keep the desktop of the WFP and leave Outlook '03 on the screen of the laptop. I am sure I could probably tweak the settings of the screens for a more even few but I am satisfied currently.

I have officially turned of my ABS PIII 800 machine and run the D620 as the primary computer. The ABS while a good machine and has stood the test of time for 6 years and was running XP home, it was several slow and most graphics/video were hassles on the system. Multitasking began to be a pain, the system had it enough.

I find the D620 definitely exceeding my performance expectations; although, I have yet to really bog down the system. I have had a few software conflicts causing the need for a restart but nothing that is of large concern at this point.

I run the D620 on WLAN through the hub connected to the ABS. That runs without a hitch and runs near optimal speed.

I have not run on battery alone in some time but I was ranging at 5 hours usage with medium lit screen and a HDD USB-powered drived hooked up to the system.

I will say the Dell's customer service at all levels suck. I had shipping issues with my printer, software, and accessories and it is becoming out of hand. I am just thoroughly up to peak with their continuing transfering, the forcing of repeating the same thing you said to the last rep again, and the ability for them to constantly shrug responsibility.

Just installed my new Samsung Monitor,

I'm sorta dissapointed that it wasnt that much of upgrade from the AUO monitor, although I got a average imrpovement, I was expecting better. I'm kinda anal about these kind of things so other people's experience may vary. It was fairly easy to install, I took my time and took around 45 minutes - 1 hour. I manage to lose one of my rubber screw covers, good grief!!! I'm such a clumsy guy. Anyways hope you guys have luck in getting samsung monitor sent out.

Also another thing is, I installed this new screen with the original cables that came with my AUO screen already attahced to my monitor, this is ok right? I dont need the original samsung cables for the actual samsung screen to work to full potential

no i'm 90% sure the cables are exactly the same... you should be fine and i doubt dell will care when you send it back..

also do you guys dl the drives for the Quadrao Nvidia card from nvidia or dell, I seem to cant install the drives from nvidia, saying these files are corrupt:S. Let me know cheers

you either need to use the dell drivers or d/l a modified .inf file from www.laptopvideo2go.com

You can't use nVidia drivers without the modded inf-file.
Just go to the Laptopvideo2go website and learn more about it. I'm currently using Forceware 84.25 with my D820 and they work perfectly fine.

Thanks!! Now I'm not sure which laptop I should get, having doubts about the rest of the models. Don't want to experience the same problem as the D620 and the crappy screen. The D620 screen are really bad, we have Latitude C600 which is like 4 yrs old and even those screens are much better and clearer then the D620. Guess shoudl always foloow the rule....never buy anything that is a new model or upgrade from previous model. Still waiting for a rresponse from Dell rep.

The D620 works and looks fine when hooked or docked to an external montior. I also bought the port replicator, monitor stand, and a 1907FP monitor when I bought the laptop and the color is fine and looks sharp. I'm referring to the screen on the laptop. It sucks!! Always had to move my head just to read the top part of the screen cause it's so light, not even light. I'm hoping that I can exchange D620 for the M1210, which was my other choice when I was purchasing, made a bad choice. Still waiting for response from Dell rep.

My D620 screen looks like shit, ever after the samsung replacement. How does the exchange work, do they give u a certain amount of credit for your laptop based on the price of your original laptop to exchange for another one
