I'm not sure how the exchange works or even if this will give me one. I'll be hearing from our corp rep tomorrow.

I read so much about whether Battlefield 2 works on this rig? Has anyone tried it?

you would probably need to get the 2 gig memory option to run that

just a quick question, my laptop was bought on a pre-configed corporate account. I only got the T2300E processor with it, is there a way to upgrade it to a 2500 or is this virtually non-upgradeable.

Hi, I've been reading this thread and I'm seriously considering buying a Dell D620 and I have a couple of questions:
1-How much does a 6 cell battery last assuming you have a Quadro?
2-How can I make sure I'll get a samsung screen?
Thanks
Edited to add:Is the screen problem only with the WXGA+ screen or also the WXGA one?

My D620 is 1+ week old.

1. I have not tried the battery, but less than 3 hr.
2. You cant make sure what screen you get.

No matter what you do, I think Dell has gone down in LCD screen quality! You see all kind of problems not just D620, but M1210 and others too.

Got mine 4 days ago (finally). God I'm pleased. Was also lucky enough to get Samsung as the screen and I have no complaints what-so-ever about the screen. What does bother me.. is a small problem with wifi. I find a wifi network, connect.. windows/ laptop shows that I'm connected but for some reason I cant browse any webpages or use any other functions that are internet related (so basically.. no data is transmitted). Any ideas what might cause this or what am I doing wrong?

Hi,
glad yours is working out for you, the only beef I have with this laptop is.

The screen quality does not match my older model d610:S, even with the samsung screen I'm not that satisfied. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong with the settings? but it just looks grainy overall and pictures look dull.

thats basically it.

heres a picture of my screen, anyone care to tell me there optimal settings for this screen lmk.

For all of you who are thinking of getting the D620.......DON'T!!!!! Overall the laptop is good and does what it suppose to but the screen is just not worth it. If you always have to move your head around just to get a good angle on the top portion of the screen is not worth keeping the laptop. Right now I'm trynig to exchange my D620 for an M1210. I'm a IT Professional and we have old laptops, like 6 years old Latitude C600, where the screen quality is much better and more clearer and sharper than the D620. Even those big a** Inspirion laptops back in the day, I5000, the screen is better. Have to say that Dell is going down hill on the screen on laptops but must say their 2407WFP monitor kicks a**. Guess should not get the first laptop that comes out in widescreen since they are trying to work out the bugs. Well, currently I'm going to be talking to our Del corp rep to get my D620 exchange for a M1210.

Thanks for answering my questions . I just want to ask again is the screen problem only specific with the WXGA+ or also the WXGA?
If I'm not mistaken it worse on the WXGA than the WXGA+. If you still want to get the D620 go with the WXGA+ and run the program mentioned in this thread to see that you get the Samsung screen.

Thanks . I'm now actually deciding between this laptop and a Sony SZ which does have a slightly smaller screen but also is much lighter. The SZ's screen seems to be better and I am looking for a laptop that I could carry around quite frequently and I'm afraid the Dell might be too big.

i have the d620 samsung screen, and it still looks bad. The improvement is marginal

I wonder if I even bother to get the Samsung screen for my D620 now that you say it looks bad. I have the LG screen.

Well, I have to go to the window setting to put the brightness at 59 to get it bright, it is a tick away from wash out.

My collegue D610 looks dull too. It is not bright.

I love my Dell 24" LCD monitor and my Insprion 6000 which has bright screen from almost any corner.

With the D620, I have to look at at certain angel, slightly off you will see dim.

for a high end business laptop they sure decided to go cheap on the screen, geez I'm quite dissapointed since everything else works quite well. :@

Before judging the screen, we should understand the reasons why they are like that. Actually they aren't bad screens at all. They are different and there are few reasons for that.

The Latitude D-series is designed for business use and so are the screens too. Those screens are made with the new Prism LGP technology and there are few things how they differ from the screens made with ordinary technology.

It's good to read this whitepaper to understand the issues with these screens. http://www.powernotebooks.com/info/W...0%20C8015+.pdf

One of the most valuable feature is that they are more than 20% brighter than traditional screens when compared with similar backlights. So they dont need as effective backlights to be bright enought for business use. That means more battery life which is very important in business machines.

I personally where little disapointed with my screen at the first place. It wasn't quite as nice as the screen in my previous laptop, but the previous laptop was optimized for gaming and entertainment, not for business use and battery life. Now, after I understand the benefits of this new technology I wouldn't change it to anything that consumes that much extra of my battery life. I also do like how it looks more and more every day.

As a conclusion after almost 2 months of using it I would say the screen is good for everyday use and very good if not excellent for business use.
