Thanks we'd appreciate the feedback on that. There is much controversy since gaming is a question on this machine. NVidia supports it as a business card and makes no mention of games. Do you know if it supports T and L? I had considered Sims 2, Godfather, NHL, and Tiger Woods. If they don't play, I won't sweat it out. I see you got the fingerprint configuration. Do you actually use it? I have a Smart Card but it would be a thorn in my side to pull it out of my wallet.

Curious on this as well. As long as I can play Civ4 I'll be a happy camper.

Since my last laptop was stolen, I use all the security options possible. I use the fingerprint scanner as a pre-boot password and then to log on to windows I have it set to require a fingerprint and a password.

I've been wanting to get Civ4. I'll probably get it this weekend, and then I'll try it out on the D620. I use to play Civ3 on my laptop all the time, I usually prefer those types of games for laptop gaming over 3d shooters.

Same here. I currently have Civ3 loaded on my old C640 & Civ4 loaded on my desktop.

Hey, I'm a new poster here and actually made the account so I could ask you a few questions about your D620.

I just purchased one from dell and is in the boxing stages. I opt'd for a very similar configuration as you did except for the 7200rpm drive (speed), 2Ghz Duo, and I think thats all I noticed was the difference.

I also am going to upgrade to 2GB Ram from newegg (sweet deal on 2GB for $145 or so).

I know you said you were gonna get some more games in this weekend just wondering what your thoughts are on the following:

Have you found any drivers that will help the Quadro with gaming performance, or modded ones?

Do you think games like Tiger Woods, Civ 4, Age of Empires 3, will be able to run on this? I'm not planning to do heavy games, but Civ 4 or AoE3 would be great if it ran on this. I know such things as 2GB ram, 7200RPM drive will definately help out with performance of these things.

Battlefield 2 thoughts would help me too

On a side note, I'm very excited to get the laptop asap so I can play around with it, great battery life, wifi, light weight, and some gaming potential.

Well, I placed my order today. We have an Enterprise account here and this is a replacement for my aging C640.

I maxed it out (T2600, 100GB 7200RPM, 2GB RAM) w/ the exception of RAM. I'll add another 2GB DIM once the prices drop over at Crucial. While XP won't recognize the full 4GB it is usefull for running things like VMware.

I usually run w/ dual batteries since I usually don't need an optical drive while traveling and the extra run time is always a plus.

The Quadro 110M and 120M (D820 only) both support hardware T&L and Pixel Shaders. I was able to play BF2, on my D820 @ 1280x1024 with graphics options on Medium, only problems were glitches in the sky that I can only attribute to immature drivers, hopefully it'll be fixed.

Nice setup! I wanted to max mine out, but I had to hold back since I put myself on a budget so I could upgrade my desktop for better gaming. I plan on upgrading to a memron processor everntually after they are released and at a lower price.

2GB a ram will help with gaming, especially BF2. The 7200RPM drive will speed up map load times, but doesn't have much effect in-game. I would like to have gotten a 7200RPM drive too, but my budget was in the way I'll try out some of these other games soon. I forgot to get Civ4, I'll try to pick it up tomorrow.

Mr Evil

That is the most important piece of information that anyone has communicated regarding the Quadro. I realize it is a business machine and the card is for 3 D applications and CAD programs, but it is good to know that T and L and Pixel Shaders are supported.

By the looks of things your screen seems better than mine.. do you get any light leakage at the bottom, and how do you rate the quality?

Its the one thing that i miss my d610 for.. the screen was far better than it is on my 620

Any words or updates from this weekend's testing?

I am getting my machine tomorrow.

I played Doom 3, it would only run good on 800x600 with medium to high settings and no FSAA. I would get excellent framerates at those settings however! I didn't get Civ4 yet, that will be my next venture.

Ronin,

So this machine is barely meeting minimum requirements. It is respectable but not stellar.

I am getting my machine today.

Have you tried the Microsoft game advisor?

Can anybody tell me something about the fan ( noise ) of the latitude d620. Because I am not sure
whether I
should buy the dell with the integrated intel grafic chip or the one with the invidia quadro nvs 110m. I am interested in some experiences with the fan. Does the fan run under office or internet activities?

There is very little fan noise from the D620. I can hear it operating, but it is very low and never enough to annoy me.

Barely hear the fan (integrated graphics) or HD. This is very quiet.

Get the Quadro NVS; it's only $60 more.

im wondering how much of an issue the MONO speaker is...really unusual in this day and age that they chose a single speaker

I think it sounds fine for system sounds, but I never use laptop speakers to play movies, mp3s, or games. I use some quality Sennheiser headsets for that . Even when my XPS Gen 2 had some nice speakers, I never used them... It's only a big deal if you rely on system speakers for the sounds you need.
