It hurt my eye so bad. The screen is horrible. Go to Dell forum and read up on it.

Unless Dell SB is different the return policy is 21 days, not 45. Unless the return period for a full refund is longer then Dell Home then that is the reason why you got hit with a restocking fee.

Just got down reading all the posts on this forum.

Is deal still sending out the bad batch of LG screen or the good samsung screens?

Are the dell 820's (15.4 screen) any better?

My D820's WSXGA+ Screen looks fine. Also, aparrently there's plenty of customers that are quite satisfied with their D620's. I have not replaced a SINGLE LCD on a D620 or D820 since they have been released.... and I know that several of my big customers have purchased many D620's to replace their used and abused D600's. And beleive me the end users at these companies are just as picky about screens as the rest of you.

I'm not saying any of you aren't having problems, I'm just saying that aparrently it's not a problem with 100% of the units.

Also, I'm curious as how many people were satisfied with their screens until they read all these threads saying there's something wrong. I call it a reverse placebo effect. People think they have a problem because another guy that bought the same thing had a problem.

Nor am I, just to be clear, but...

I'm wondering this exact same thing, and I've seen it happen on more than one occasion. Again, I'm not calling anyone out on anything, just agreeing with MrEvil's general observation.

I'm going to be ordering a D620 -- Core 2 Duo T7200 (2GHz), 2GB memory, 100GB 7200RPM HD, Quadro NVS 110M, WXGA+ screen -- in the next few days and I'm going to open it up, power it on, and look at the screen. If I'm happy with the way it looks I'll keep it. I don't care who made the screen, whether it's from a bad batch or if someone else's might look better (which is a largely subjective thing depending heavily on your eyes, your environment, and your expectations), or anything else. If it looks good to me, I'll be fine. Of course, if it looks crappy I'm probably going to investigate further, in which case all the information in this thread and the one on Dell's forum site will likely come in handy.

Thanks for the great information and reviews, too, everyone. This page helped a great deal in swaying me towards the D620, screen naysayers aside.

The Harry_Pontek just received his D620. Upon checking his monitor manufacturer using PowerStrip, it says

Manufacturer: Plug and Play Monitor
Model ID: LPL0000

What does it suppose to mean? Can someone enlighten The Harry_Pontek? Plus, he recently download the driver from DELL and it says the driver date is June 2006. Is this the best driver there is now? The Harry_Pontek will be using this notebook for business purpose and gaming. He recently installed Titan Quest and the game does not really perform that great. It can still play but lag a bit. Would love to try Oblivion but need advice first before proceed to buy to buy the game. Thanks in advance for any response. Take a deep breath and everything will turn out just fine.

Unfortunately, the day after I posted this another person on the team ended up tendering their resignation, so I inherited their laptop rather than getting a new one.

It's an HP Compaq nw8440 Mobile Workstation. It's not bad, overall, but I certainly wouldn't have chosen it for myself, and the screen is a piece of junk with a bunch of dim spots. I'm probably going to call HP support and see if I can get it replaced. But, it's a temporary solution anyway -- I should be able to get a D620 (or whatever has replaced it) the way I want it come next summer.

Well... Ive just upgraded my laptop (again) from a 620 WSXGA+ 1.83core duo with GMA 950 to a D620 2gig Core2Duo with the 9 cell batt, and the Quadro.. The screen is definately better (i had my previous one replaced twice) the cpu runs cooler, and using NHC to drop the voltage and keep the cpu at 1gig i can get about 5 hours from the 9 cell battery
