Aspire 5672WLMi with X1600

Thread Starter
Apparently there is a 5672WLMi Aspire coming on June 1, 2006 with the following specs:

Core T2300 - 1.66Ghz
100GB HD
1GB DDR2 RAM
256MB ATI X1600
DVD-SuperMulti+
15.4" WXGA glossy screen
Gigabit Ethernet
Orbicam
XP Home
6.6lbs

Here is a link to the thread over at NBR with Acer Canada's Notebook Matrix for the Aspire 5627WLMi.

I believe there is a good chance this will make it to the US since there is already 5672 models over here.

Just a heads up I guess.

WOW and double WOW
that means that I will be able to replace my 5672's motherboard with a newer one with a better Graphics processor onboard, I would so LOVE for acer to do an upgrade program on there, since its obvious that the existing ones were underspecced on the graphics core

They really should boost the CPU in these things to at least a T2400. I don't know about you guys, but the T2300 was just too slow for my likeing. I replaced it with a T2500 (at a great price mind you) and i performance is way better now.
the processor has always been upgradeable, and while the core duo's are still expensive it keeps the cost of the notebook down

I do think they should have supplied the x1600 in the first place
if they upped the processor too then it would conflict with the travelmate

Yeah, but for how much? Is a new mobo worth $600 just for a better vid card?
well if the mobo is 600 which I would doubt
but if you are a gamer, you would pay up to $300 to upgrade your graphics for HDR Lighting, and Higher resolutions and framerates

especially with games like crysis in production (although I reckon a complete Generation 2007 laptop will be needed with a big GPU )
what can I say I love my eye candy

Yeha, i would pay $300 for an upgrade. The $600 idea came from the cost of the average Sager mobo to upgrade. If they really do do it for cheaper, count me in!
I would check what the sager mobo includes,
that sounds like a mobo with processor
then again a mobo with gfx card could come at a premium
I wonder if they might do an upgrade program where they could reuse te x1400 mobo's there would so be a market for spares.
Nope - no CPU at all ($600 is a a little cheap including a CPU, dontcha think? ).

I really don't know how an upgrade program would work, or if one would even be offered at all. I guess you would have to look for spare parts using your serial number, which may kill your warrenty there..
I might get one, if its not much more than the current 5672.
something tells me that the x1600 model may replace the lower end x1400 models, as price reductions have moved them into the lower system brackets

the machine has already dropped in some places by up to $150 (or £100 where I am)

as far as the warranty is concerned, if I see an upgrade window and its priced right I will support my machine myself

I could always keep the old mobo if the new one goes.

as for $600 being cheap, lets see thats £353 hmmm a top end motherboard would normally set someone back around £180 - £200 on the outside, since its not a server motherboard. its an Intel 915 chipset board,

the laptop board is obviously smaller, but it also has less ports and connectors.

onboard video costing £153 would normally be cheaper than a standalone card, and with the X1600 priced at around: £91 for a Sapphire X1600 with 512mb onboard, and thats for retail prices

so I would say that $500 would be more reasonable
or even less
but lets see what happens, and if enough people ask, and it becomes profitable to do it, Acer will jump on the upgrade wagon, just to get more cash out of existing users, which will in turn create good feeling about a company that allows upgrades, which will most likely result in further machines being bought by the same people in the future.

everyone wins

How do you upgrade your CPU?
Pics can be found here. But since i already gave them to you in PM won't help you much, but maybe someone else.
Just for shits and giggles, i emailed Acer support to see if they know anything about any possible upgrades. If not, i will call the spare parts number, and look into the cost of a new mobo with the x1600 on it.

And for those that missed it, the new x1600 model is on thier website:

nice one Divine
in fact I think I will email them too to make sure they get the message

Can't wait to find out. Makes me wish i didn't buy when i did. Esspecially considering it spent 16 days at Acer for service!
BOFH - Good to know - the more interested voices the better!

Sucka - You should drop em a line (even if you aren't interested ). i know how you feel about buying too soon though. Then again, in my case, i had a good deal (1250 @ 18months no interest), so it was worth jumping on.
