8890 slowdowns

Hi, I posted once before in a reply that I wasn't having any problems running DAoC on my 8890. But I have to take that post back, Im having some really bad slowdowns when Im at populated areas.

After some mins (about 5 mins) after entering the game, Im having some predictable slowdowns. I timed it for 20 mins and noticed I was running for exactly 59 secs of smooth gameplay followed by 59 secs of VERY low FPS.

My desktop system is running DAoC a lot better better then this. (AMDXP1800+, 512 mb Ram, radeon 9700PRO)
I've tried to disable my soundcard in device manager, with no changes.
I also ran DAoC in 800x600 resolution with all details at low, which didnt change a bit.
Finally I took a look at my fans, and there was no trace of any dust blocking the vent.
I formatted my computer and updated to the newest audio and video drivers.

I have no clue what to do now, I know my system ram is fine since it's allready been replaced.

any help is appreciated

btw. my 8890 is a 3.0 ghz, 1024mb ram and a 7200RPM 60gb HD

hmm I've now tried to reinstall my chipset drivers, and Im downloading the official drivers from sagernotebooks.com atm.
The reinstall of chipset drivers didnt help.
And I checked my AGP aperture size was at 128mb.

btw. I think DAoC is a direct x game so I dont think the openGL->Directx is gonna help me much.

It feels like my system is underclocking for some secs.
Im actually running slower then all other people when the slowdown happens

Update:
I tried to set AGP aperture size down to 64mb. And ran Henrik's acpiec_off file so that I could monitor my temperature while playing DAoC.

All my slowdowns were gone, and I ran arround in the most populated areas in DAoC for a hour, where my computer suddently shut it self down.

I had been watching the temperature for a while where it started at 81 degrees and after about 30 minutes it seem stable at 83 degrees.

But since it shut it self down, I assume it hit 85 degrees.

I would like to know the temperature of another 8890 owner while playing DAoC.

I dont know what henrik's acpiec_off file has done, but I do know that this is the first time my computer has shut it self down.

So now I ask, did henriks program shut some kind of underclocking tool off?

I'm not sure of the temp in DAoC but yeah 85 degrees is the shut down point in BIOS, you are running way to hot. 39 - 56 degrees is the normal operating range in our 8890s, 59 degrees is the max I have seen from me or other people on this forum when the 8890s are running right. Make sure your heat sink is blown out and clean. And yes, the temp monitor turns off the computers ability to underclock. You were running hot so the computer underclocked, and your game ran slow, but when you used the temp program your lappy ran at full blast so you didn't see any slow downs.

You were right
It was a heat problem. Today I bought a airspray and found out that I actually had a vacuum in my closet and I spray'ed and vacuumed my vents. I couldnt see any dust, but after turning my computer on, it's was suddently much cooler.
I've been running DAoC for 7 hours now and my temp is 56-57 degrees

Im not burning my fingers on the keyboard either anymore :P

But I've still not enabled the acpiec_on, but I dont think that will change anything

Weired that I couldnt see any signs of dust anywhere thou

Same problem, here. Same solution. 5 minutes with a vacuum and I'm running well.

On to Emain!
