thanks you guys for the awesome infos, still the question is left unanswered.
how soon til they introduce a new laptop. i have a few days before i actually need to decide wether to buy the latest model, or wait for the dual core ones
with hopefully a better video card/more mem/drive/etcetc.. options
its not a money thing, its just to get the best that i can at this point without going overboard with other brands for over 3k$

cheers

HP/Compaq has a new turion x2 model available now, but I still haven't heard about anything being available from Gateway yet. I'm hoping it will be soon as well, because I'm really interested in using my extended warranty to replace my slightly aging 6805.

If you're looking for awesome deals on dual-core processor laptops, dell has been turning up the heat with some outrageous good deals. I hate to admit it, being an eMachines freak, but right now I think dell is taking a loss just to get a big foothold in the dualie laptop arena. $800 for a dual-core intel?

looking at these dual core lappies i am positive that i need to wait a bit,
i wasnt at all satisfied with the video card on the gateway.
maybe they will bump up the vid card in the next revision and introduce the dual core.

i guess its worth the wait, plus i'll have more time to save a few extra $.

I'm beginning to think that maybe Gateway did decide to stop making new laptop models. They have been steadily removing older models from their site, but there haven't been any new models to replace them yet. I haven't seen or heard anything new for months now and the product refresh is over do now isn't it?

I'm guessing that the New Gateway NX680 Notebook Series with the Dual cores and 256MB VRAM and 2GB Dual Channel Memory seems to be the way to go? I was in the Gateway Sales Chat and the Rep kept trying to PUSH this model on me, they were willing to take off 20% on the price, and add what I wanted to the customized notebook, if I bought one, it was VERY Temping, but, I didn't take the bate, I was also told by that same sales rep, that "We don't sell Retail Notebooks, if you are looking for one of them, you will have to buy one form a Retail Store"

Well gateway dose this every year, they take away some models, add new models around aguast/septmeber.

I bet the new models are going to use Merom/turion x2

I guess I can wait for a back to school product launch, but I thought that Gateway was introducing new/upgraded models roughly every 3-6 months.

I just saw an announcement about the MSI X2 laptop on the inq, so the new models should be rolling out shortly. Now I'm just thinking about whether or not I should wait for Vista and a DX10 graphics card in my next laptop. DX10 sounds really promising, even if the games won't be ready until next summer. hmmm.

There not very consistent about realese reason i gave them 2 months... never know mabey tomorrow they will say released turion x2 note book with go 7950 gx2 w/ 512 mb of ram ( sorry its just a wish i have ). I Dont Know about you but i cant wait a minimal of 6 months for vista!

Unless Microsoft radically revamps the architecture, you're gonna have to wait longer than that. So far, Vista's a crashing failure- emphasis on crashing and failure.

I've been itchin to upgrade my 6805 for the last 6 months. Mainly because of games like Oblivion. It runs, but the settings have to be turned down so far that I just haven't been able to bring myself to play it on my laptop.

I know the release date for Vista still isnt set, but I'm realllly gonna wish I waited for DX10 if they can get some real performance benefits from it, especially since DX10 is Vista only at this point. I keep looking at upcoming releases like Crysis and thinking you won't be able to turn up anything without at least a dual CPU machine and a video card close to the performance level of the DX10 class hardware that should be ready by the holiday season.

Other than the delayed release and some missing features, what are you refering to as a crashing failure? Most reviews I've read about Vista have been very promising, considering that it's probably running with a lot of debugging code turned on.

I personally wouldn't install it on my desktop at home for at least 6months after the release, but I wouldn't mind having it on my next laptop.

Well Windows XP Pro will still be around until at least 2013, so I really wouldn't worry much about what OEM's plan on doing with notebooks, when inflation is getting HIGHER, and the PRICE of just about EVERYTHING keeps Going up,only to have the FEDS LIE and tell us everything is just fine, when we know it is NOT, it's alway nice to know that what you already have will work just fine, just something to consider before we all DROP 2,000 Bucks on the OVER-PRICED lastest & Greatest Lappy, only to find out that it will be Obsolete, when you take it outta the door of the retail place you just bought it form! that's just my 2 cents about VISTA and the lastest Notebook Specs, but hey it's your money

It looks like Gateway may be going to the darkside totally after all. I just noticed today that they have new Intel models, but only 2 old AMD models. The kicker is their marketing people are trying to pass off integrated graphics in their Platinum line, what's up with that? If they do eventually release a Turion X2, I really really hope they don't screw up like that.

Anyone else notice that Turion X2's are like virtually non existant now? Even the HP/Compaq model I saw earlier is no longer available as an option.

All this lack of good news is gonna make me
