7200rpm hard drive really worth it? - Page 3

i choose 5400rpm just because of the fact that it will have less noise, less heat and more battery power. 5400rpm hd serves me just fine to play all my games and do multitasking.

and i have 16mb cache on my 100gb 5400rpm so that helps

i would look at getting a hd w/ 16mb cache like seagate, toshiba, hitachi offer

this is how i look at it.

if you only need 60-80gb, then by all means a 7200 is in order.

if you need more space, 5400 is fine.

youll never know the difference really much anyways. but if i was buying a replacement HD, and didnt need the space, id go 7200 all the way!

think of it like this.

why would something that has the same power requirements(7200) as the 5400 use more power?

answer, it doesnt. anyone that tells you it does it full of poop

Does anyone know when larger 7200 2.5" drives will be coming out? For example a 160gb or 200gb 7200?

i think there's already a 160gb out that utilized perpendicular write? maybe not

and as for the density, it's very true. i have a fujitsu 5400rpm 8mb 40gb and it's way slower than my dead hitachi 7200rpm 60gb.

damn... now wouldnt that be cool if you could overclock your hard drive...

thanks, but what i mean is has anyone heard if there are 2.5" 160 gb drives that spin at 7200 rpm's that are supposed to be realeased anytime soon?

So my question is what should i get.

160 5400 $210ish
120 5400 $150ish
or
100 7200 $150ish

right now i am leaning towards the 160 just for the size. Performace wise it looks similar to the 7k100, just a little bit slower in some things.

What do you guys think.
