I currently have the Creative Soundblaster Extigy External soundcard for use with my laptop. While this works fine for me right now, it is quite large and I am always in the mood to change something.
I know that Creative has a newer external soundcard called the Audigy 2 NX, which supports USB 2.0 (unlike the Extigy, which is 1.1). After reading reviews on the net, I believe the Audigy2 NX offers a few newer features, but also loses out on some features, like MIDI in and out, as well as the ability to use the soudcard as a standalone surround decoder for use with something like a Playstation 2. The pricing on this Audigy 2 NX is less than that of the Extigy by about 30 or 40 dollars.
Bottom line is...I use this soundcard for my Logitech Z-560 speakers, consisting of 4 sattelites and a subwoofer. Would the Audigy be an upgrade or downgrade for me? I believe the USB 2.0 would help.
What do you all think? Has anyone been able to actually compare the two side by side or maybe heard music from both of them. Thanks so much.
