M1710 blue-screens after inserting smart card!

Anybody tried using the M1710's built-in smart card reader yet? When I insert a card, it blue-screens a few seconds later with:

BAD_POOL_HEADER

STOP: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0x89DBB120, 0x89DBB130, 0x1A02000D)

Not very good, is it? The internal O2Micro reader uses the standard Microsoft USB CCID class driver so you'd hope for it to work, really.

Sounds like the smart card isn't formatted for your system and any peticular application to read from. What are you using the smart card for? If you know it's nothing you did... call Dell, bitch and whine, tell them it was a selling point for you to buy the system over another competitor (other than Alienware), and tell them if they can't resolve the problem them must refund you.

You'll get something out of it in the end.

The card was provided to me by Microsoft to allow me to access their source code. It works fine with the external USB card readers I already have, it's just when I use the internal card reader that i get the BSOD. I don't even have to do anything with the card - just stick it in, wait a few seconds then... boom!

I already sent a message to Dell tech support. Anybody know how long they generally take to respond? Maybe I should try to contact Microsoft as well, seeing as they wrote the driver.

Never mind, I think I have sorted it out. I uninstalled the Smart Card Base Cryptographic Service Provider that Microsoft provided me with on CD, and installed a more recent version that I found at the Microsoft Download Center. The BSODs seem to have stopped now.

Perhaps he's just honest and doesn't see the need to blame dell for something that isn't thier problem just to get free stuff

Also Jim is in the UK, Dell here don't seem nearly as willing to hand out discounts or upgrades.
