In summary, "future" was chosen to relate to those who have thus already decided in favor of purchasing an 8790, while "prospective" was used to describe those who may be likely to purchase. One denotes certainty (ie, "that is to be"), while denotes uncertainty (ie, "likely to be" or "likely to come about").

Today's lesson was brought to you by the letter M.
Sorry to bring the thread off topic.

Generally when you have more than one adjectives in serial order before a word it means that they are all delineating the noun after it. If you intentioned the two words to carry different meanings then the phrase becomes an oxymoron.

In your case you would want the two adjectives to be parallel, which would change the phrase to "for prospective and future 8790 owners".

I am trying to get back at you for stealing my signature (from a while ago)

Hehe...just kidding.

Wow...the Inspiron XPS looks like an XBox trying to swallow a Inspiron 8600...

I doubt that the Inspiron 9100 will be Sonoma/Dothan based. It is a slower brother to the XPS, and will be similar to the XPS in all aspects.

I kinda like it. And if it shows up before the 8790, I'm buying it. I'm simply tired of waiting for that thing.

In truth, a "/" is supposed to exist between "prospective" and "future", which should read "prospective/future". I have no idea why the "/" decided against showing itself - possibly a UTF8 issue? Or an issue with Opera? Am unsure (and confess to being too lazy to deduce a solution). If anyone could offer a way to edit the title, I would be glad to do so.

As far as the signature, I believe credit (and thus, ownership) should be given to the originator, which would not be you or myself.

Note : on the off chance (although, probabilistically speaking, the chance is remote) the originator of the above quotation actually frequents this forum, stand up and be counted. These are your fifteen minutes of fame.

Edit : I thought it best to reply to the question below with an edit in place of another response. In reference to "originator", I thought it was implied the word's meaning referred to he or she who created or inspired the quotation. In essence, the person responsible for its origin (hence, "originator"). In reference to where I came to find or use said quotation, I actually borrowed it once years ago (from a bumper sticker on a VW beetle), and since it applied to mathematics (which, if anyone has guessed, is what I am most into), I kept it around in my memory. I have yet to find its originator, however, and have gave up looking; but have since used it in a number of places (including several forums). Since those events transpired literally years before coming to this particular forum, I think it is safe to say it I found it by way of another individual, and that said individual was not yourself.

Unless, of course, that was your VW beetle.

I know...I stole the little phrase from a chatroom somewhere...I was just kidding about you stealing it. I also saw it at several other occasions. theregister.co.uk actually sells a t-shirt featuring the quotation. But I've never seen anyone in this forum besides you and I to use that quotation. Are you sure the person in the forum you have seen who used that quotation wasn't me?

The New Dell Inspiron XPS has a 128MB ATI™ Mobility Radeon™ 9700 as the only video card option. See Here I thought I remember someone in these forms saying that the 9700's may be based on a "modular" design where you could buy one with different amounts of memory. Is this correct, or has the 9700 been revealed to be a stricly 128MB Card? I only want to know because it has significant implications on my hopes for the 8790. Thanks

Dell says the graphics card will be upgradeable in the Inspiron XPS - a first for Dell.
Yeah, I'm stuck with this problem: 8790 or XPS.

I was absolutely sold on a 8790 but now I dont know....

Why?

1. Upgradeable Graphics, Dedicated Support

"Offered for the first time on Dell notebooks, the Inspiron XPS will feature a graphics upgrade option for enthusiasts who want to stay at the top of their game with leading-edge technology. And, getting the graphics card upgrade is easy. The customer purchases the upgrade, available at a later date, and a Dell technician will be dispatched to install the graphics card at the customer's home. The service is based on the customer's schedule which eliminates the need to send the system back to Dell and experience unnecessary downtime. Additionally, Inspiron XPS customers will have dedicated tech support manned by experienced technicians, oftentimes gamers themselves, who are knowledgeable and able to troubleshoot, diagnose and handle the most demanding inquiries. Dell also works with hardware vendors and game developers so that specific issues can be resolved. "

So I'm assuming that you can install the M12 into this when it comes out. If the 8790 cant do this, why get the sager then????

2. Battery life

"138 WHr 16-cell Secondary Battery"
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...s=dhs&kc=6V650

WHOA! A 138 WHr 16cell battery?! Sager only offers a 10cell.

The things I'm disapointed in the XPS is:
- No full scale keyboard
- Only a WUXGA to choose from (WSXGA+ would be cheaper)
- Only a P4 3.4EE and P4 3.4 to choose from (P4 3.2 and P4 3.0 would be cheaper)

I was reading the dell XPS notebook site and this upgradable graphics technology seems like only a half step. It says it is a one time only option and the new card will be available in may/june. You only have a year after your purchase to do it. After that the new card ships standard and the site does not allude to any more upgrading options after the may/june option. Maybe i'm jumpint to far ahead of them and that will be available after the may/june card (256MB Version of the Mobility Radeon 9700? Just my guess).
Read the fine print here.
