Interesting. The guy says:

I'm back with a final update on my situation. Today the Dell tech replaced the video card and he did extensive testing with 3DMark03 and NFSU. The issue DOES NOT show up anymore, so this proves that I had a faulty video card. The technical explanation that cking32 provided was probably the reason why it didn't show up on an external screen.

What is cking32?

I imagine cking32 was the handle of the user who explained it to them.

The technician camed two days ago and replaced my video adapter. The problem is gone. yuhuuuu

i have this on my new laptop.. i have video of it if anyone wants to see what it looks like. So basically the fix is a new graphics card???
yep no other solution and despite what dell believes its NOT the motherboard or lcd

Im sorry to tell you this but that is NOT horizontal rain. Infact th eproblem shouldnt occur until about 5-10 minutes of intensive gaming and it should pretty much render you being able to see absolutely nothing
post #32 of 38
edit: problem fixed.
you have detect the gpu temperature monitor first before that happens. download 3dmarks 2k3 and tell me if the problem occurs there
post #34 of 38
yea machina, it happened during the third time i ran 3dmark03
starting temp: 53*c
1st run : 2780 63*c
2nd run : 2777 71*c
3rd run : pic1 then went to windows which showed this pic1 (pics are high res, sorry for people with slow connection)
The temp in the taskbar is the gpu temp, I did notice the fans kicking in again after the computer went to windows. So when the "rain" was happening the gpu was probably a bit hotter.

Sequence of events as they occured was whole screen turning white and pink and purple and blue like my second video post, then something similar to the first video i posted where you can see the game but there is lines. Then comes the first picture posted here wehre the whole screen just goes black with those lines. Finally windows recovers and gives me that message like that in the second pic.

There we go thats Horizontal Rain GPu is defective tell you what set your Powerplay setting to balanced and then try gaming i can assure you the problem will not show up and if thats so then its definetly the video adapter and it needs replacing
post #36 of 38
haha, it's already on balanced. 0.o
wow are you sure? its on balanced while plugged in? then you have by far the worst case of it

well as an update for my other forum that is linked to this thread, I had my videocard replaced a long tima ago and this is not a problem anymore. It was an isolated case with some laptops and is a resolved issue. Note this was an issue with ATI not dell
