Is the Asus Z96J worth the wait?

I'm looking to buy a new laptop, and thought I'd go with a whitebook this time. Right now the S96J is out, and it seems that the only big difference is the resolution of the screen...is it worth the wait? And also, is the S96J a decent gaming laptop?

The Z will have Bluetooth too.

My S96J gets around 3700 in 3DMark05 which is more than decent. You won't be running Oblivion at HQ and high frames obviously, but things like HL2 will run great on it.

The rumor, per the Core Duo sticky, is not until June some time.

why does the 8200 score 4500 and all other x1600 seem to score 3700 roughly?

clock frequecies. ASUS wants to ensure a cool and quiet notebook, so they'll drop the clock frequency on their video cards sometimes to make sure it falls into specs of what they're looking for.

A lot of people, myself included, actually prefer the lower resolution that the S96J offers.. it's perfect for a 15.4 inch screen IMHO.

since ir is not going to be your gaming laptop maybe even look at the smaller form factor like W3 will play games great and is more portable than a 15.4" noteook.

Which verstion of the W3 would you reccomend? the W3J? Or one of the others?

The W3j has the most power, but the W3v will get better battery life (and it's considerably cheaper)

I used to prefer that too untill i saw how good the laptop screen quality is. You can literally see the font on a 15.4" lappy even with WSXGA+ without a hitch. It's clear clear clear clear, oh so clear.

it also has built-in bluetooth and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. i *think* you can get bluetooth with the current model though, as an extra upgrade or something.

its the laptop i'm getting. I am unable to wait for the ones with the better screens though (need it soon) so I'll be getting the WXGA option. the x1600 should do well in most games. of course theres stuff like FEAR and Oblivion that you'll need to turn settings down for, but most everything else should run well. I would really prefer a WSXGA (not WUXGA, too high for me), but again I need it before they come out.

depending on how much you need the camera and bluetooth (and how bad you want the screen) it may or may not be worth the wait.

The S96j does have the webcam. It works quite well.

As far as FEAR I'm running at native res (1280x800) with most settings at maximum (and no FSAA) and it is silky smooth. I do not have Oblivion for PC because I'm playing on xbox 360.
