You can wipe it out - but I would highly not recommend to do so. If you are planing to do full recovery at any point later, using your 4 DVDs will take about 5hours to restore!!!! using the partition about 40minuts. So it is up to you.

Thanks for your input 137. What can I do to have that partition stop nagging me about being full ? Disk Cleanup is of no help.

On the diskcleanup nagging you , there should be an option to confiqure it. There are also regestry edits you could do... You might be able to use a disk partitioning program to "hide" the partition (mark hidden).... So the OS doesn't "see it". I'd call HP and bug them about it... If nothing else to make them work for their money. Toonz.... the below is a re-post... may have some info that may help you. http://www.notebookforums.com/showpo...99&postcount=3 QUESTION

Put the original Windows media center back on the c: with all the bloatware and make the D: drive the recovery partition again? Thanks, puTTs.

Here's the "QuickPlay v2.0 "thread, somewhere in this thread a poster said it did recreate the QP partition: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=141817 As a suggestion to ANYONE who's interested in making a backup, or image or their hd, OS, or Apps, check out: http://radified.com/Articles/laptop.htm and the links to the Apricron EZ-BUS-DTC-KIT noted below. This way you can image the entire hard drive... make your own "restore disc'(s)". You can back up the data to CD, DVD, or to a spare hard drive such as the Apricorn EZ-BUS-DTC-KIT external enclosure noted below. You can make images as needed, restore within minutes. Really like, (cough, cough) how HP's disc creator for the recovery disc only allows (1) set to be made! (LOL). I made my disc(s) and when I tried to make a back-up of those disc(s) via NERO keep getting an "uncoverable" read error about 4 minutes into the read.... wonder if those discs will work when I need them??????? Do your self a favor and check out the above link. If you need a GOOD external hard drive enclosure check out the Apricorn EZ-BUS-DTC-KIT - Comes with a nice software package to clone, or ghost a hd: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8 PS: If the above Amazom review helps you, be sure to rate the review!!! Click the little box at the bottom of the review that says: Was this review helpful to you? Yes/No Several models:http://www.apricorn.com/product_details.php?ID=420 EZ-BUS-DT-KIT - For IDE hd, USB external interface EZ-BUS-DTC-KIT-For IDE hd, USB /FIREWIRE external interface EZ-BUS-DTC-KIT-For SATA hd, external interface USB NOTE that the Apricorn units are a "kit' that you put a 3.5 desktop drive in to make a portable back-up /recovery solution. Apricorn also sells the unit with a hd already installed....and "supports" them, unlike vendors of other external enclosures that just "sell" the enclosure itself... Have NO contact with the end user pertaining to any "problems" that may arise!!!! Keep that in mind when looking for an exteranl enclosure! This is the best price I found for the USB/ FIREWIRE version: http://www.provantage.com/apricorn-e...t~7APRC3JA.htm Or EZ-BUS-DT-KIT (USB only), slightly cheaper. ($46.99) I posted about in this thread "The official external ENCLOSURE thread": http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/mess...hreadid=496281 I'd advise ANYONE who's concerned with DATA loss to get one ASAP!!!.... If you're a student for example, and your laptop gets stolen, or gets broken you're going to be in a world of hurt over losing your data. If you're in the "working" world.... and the data would mean the keeping the doors "open' for business you would be well advised to use something like this to backup your data to and store OFF-SITE, in case of fire, or theft. Ditto for personal use if you have say pictures of your grandmother scanned and are concerned about fire and theft. Stuff that if "lost" could never be replaced. If you need a unit for a SATA hd, and want USB, and a SATA external interface, check out the AMS Venus DS3 DS-2316SU2SBK. : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817145660 (NOTE: Not "crazy" about the "plastic tray" the hd sits in, the fact the hd does is "isolated" from the external casing.... Apricron's would be my first choice as the hard drive is in DIRECT contact with the aluminum casing, sits in an aluminum tray, plus has a huge 80mm fan to boot!) If you need RAID, check out the AMS DS-2320DBK : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817332001

You could use partition magic and increase the partition size, this should prevent partition full errors. GL

I would not go with the partition magic to play with the system partition. I did before and the screen went black, the disk beeped and after it tried to reboot only messge: disk read error appeared on and on and on. I tried everything, the only way was to boot it up from the system discs and completely restore everything from scratch! beware of this, they have some protection system involved in that I believe, because the report of that was: the partition has been damaged or rfeconfigured or somethign like that... You can get rid of ti by making a clean install and putting on all the drivers from the web respectively the DVDs you burned. Either that or you gitta live with the partition. Actually, I do not really know what to say abou tthe disk clean-up. So try to run it, it shoudl stop bugging you. Plus, if you set it for off, you are all set!

Best choice would be to back-up everything via an Apricorn EZ-BUS-DTC-KIT external enclosure. It comes with an OEM copy of Acronis True Image. (EZ-GIG II)

Description of the software:
EZ Gig II Backup & Disaster Recovery Software The award winning EZ Gig II backup & disaster recovery software is comprised of two separate programs providing complete protection for your entire computer system.

Clone EZ creates an exact bootable clone of your hard drive providing a disaster recovery backup of your system. In the event of a hard drive failure, you can be back up and running in minutes.
Image EZ takes a snapshot of your entire system and compresses it into a file half its original size, thus enabling multiple backups to a single drive. This method saves hours of system rebuilding and is simple and easy to use.
Second Copy Synchronizing Software: Second Copy Synchronizing software provides a variety of options for synchronizing your system for file sharing or backup. The software is simple and easy to use and takes only a few minutes to complete.

Cryptainer Encryption Software: Cryptainer Encryption software secures your data with absolute privacy using Blowfish 128bit encryption. Cryptainer allows you to password protect and secure any file or folder. Simply drag and drop the files and folders you wish to hide and your data is safe and protected.

With EZ-Gig II you can back up the entire drive, back up a partition to CD, DVD, or to hard drive, and/or create your own recovery partition.

After backing up the hd as shipped, The best thing to do is to nuke the Hp restore partition, Do a fresh install of the OS, confiqure everything.... Then by using the EZ-Gig II make an image that can be on the hard drive (restore partition) and you can also burn that image to DVD, external hd.

You can make as many copies as you want.... Unlike the HP disc creator that ONLY makes (1) set.

One more thing that you should consider before saying "no", it's too expensive, blah, blah blah.... When installing the OS you should anyways partition the drive into sections, keeping your DATA seperate from the OS!!!!

Depending on how you back it up you can either have the OS and APPS on one partition, then data on another... making images of each as needed (as many copies as you want)...

Or you can have the OS on a small partition, the apps on a much larger, and the data on the third partition. That's how I've run my systems for years.... It works pretty good if you ever have to re-install, image back the OS as all your apps and data is untouched. Simpler solution is to have the OS and APPS on the same partition, and the DATA on it's own seperate partition...

Speaking of "DATA".... Anyone that has their DATA on the same partition as the OS is a fool.... (Unless they've imaged everything, made weekly images)

Bottom line is for ANYONE who is looking to backup their data, backup the OS, Image the hd drive ANYTIME you want...(make your own restore disc) and/OR be able to transfer, archive data as needed, needs to look into the: Apricorn EZ-BUS-DTC-KIT. http://www.provantage.com/apricorn-e...t~7APRC3JA.htm

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8

With the Apricorn EZ-BUS-DTC-KIT you will have the software and hardware to backup your hd as needed... make your own restore partition, plus I think it has an option once that partition has been created to PROTECT it from being deleted, unless a password you create is entered....

Toonz,

If you decide on the Apricorn unit.. call and talk with
Chris Sothras, Channel Manager and tell him WeAreNotAlone sent you. 800 number is on their site.
http://www.apricorn.com/product_details.php?ID=420

I talked with him last Friday the 12th... Posted the review on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8

Him and I talked at length about some ideas to make an already excellant product even better. Nice guy, will work with you.

The EZ-GIG II software is VERY easy to work with.... NICE software package (REALLY). (OEM version of Acronis True Image)
