It turns off the hard disks...

serious, it turns it off after a while to save energy. when you want to resume, it is powered on again.

edit: hmm... maybe I should nominate you as NoTW...

omg, i knew that. this is my situation, i am downloading using my own dsl connection on my desktop, and this fool has wireless with no secuirty, so i am taking advantage of his 512 connection, and i elave it to download voernight, if i turn off the hard disks, that means it cannot download, nor can the computer be on?

If u turn off ur HD, then no u cannot download anythin, as downloading saves information to ur HD, thus needing it to be on...

U can have the computer on, and have the hard disk shut down to save power and extend its life.

the guy owns a dell.. just... lay off ok.. also the new HDD's that samsung sell has flash memory built into the HDD using far less power, so unless you need to do big read and writes the flash memory will just temporarily save your data till you need it further extending your battery life.

the question reminds me of this one time this tard call me and she asked
"whats the diffrence between Shutdown, Restart and Log off"

And explain it to her using "like" and "there was this one time when I was (input word you want to explain here {ie shutdown}) and like I totally (anything you want here, doesn't even have to be related)...

This will work and it will be funny!

Ah... now I understand your problem. The hard drive will turn off *only* after X minutes/hours of idle time. So, if your computer is performing HDD operations, it won't turn off. No need to worry about.
