The files dont have to be in the system directory. Just run the batch file and it registers the dlls from any location.

This is an awesome program, works great on my xps gen 2. I had a few problems with installation but finally figured it out after reading all the posts from this thread. If you could edit this thread or add some installation instructions it would probably help. I found out that I needed to download and install .net framework. Also I had to use the quickset driver that came on the restore cd as the newest version had problems with the performance settings.(stayd in max battery mode even when I changed it to max performance) Works great now though, and I love the windows media plugin! Keep up the great work!

Newbie with issues...

Hello,

I'm a newbie at this so bear with me. Have just purchased my XPS M1710, and love it except for the lights which seem to hog alot of system resources when run through Quickset. It also seems to interrupt the playing of music when run in conjunction with Media Player.

I have just downloaded the xpslights program, but can't seem to get it to work. Is it designed to work with Vista Home Premium edition?

I have been through the forum a number of times, and believe I'm following the instructions correctly. I have installed Dell Quickset, and NET framework 1.1, and when I run "Run this first to register the xpsutils.dll and XPSLights Media Player Plugin", this is the error I get (attached).

Any ideas anyone? Any info appreciated.

Cheers, Darren.

I had to load .net framework 2.0(1.1 didn't work for me) for it to work on my computer, don't know if it would help you out though.

Hello People,

I’m new here.

I just found this and the work around for vista today.

I am posting in regards to the winamp plugin.

I was wondering if there was a way to make the colours more flexable?

IE in winamp, they only flash with bassy songs and it only seems to be red / brown / yellow type colours.

Is there a way to change the colours regarding this matter or increase the sensitivity of the beate detection?

Thanks,

Aidan

What's the Vista work around you are talking about?

I've got Vista and I'm getting that "exception" error people are posting here. I've got quickset installed, .net 1.1, dll's registered and, still, having the problem.

I have now rewritten the app for Vista. I have used the Official Dell SDK aswell. New version also supports Touchpad effects. I have had to remove the network and hard disk monitor feature because it used a function that needed admin privileges to run. I have also removed the LCD dimmer because the dell sdk doesnt support that.

Not uploaded yet if anyone wants it just pm me.

Please no Gmail emails. They refuse any attachment containing an exe file, even if it is in a zip file.

has there been any suggestions made to have an option for the email alert to only go off if you have unread mail? i almost always have a message in my inbox, so i only want to be notified of new messages.

The way the email alert works is that it detects if there are any emails on the server. Once outlook or your email client has downloaded them the leds will stop flashing.

Well, I use IMAP so the mail client never downloads mail off the server. All the mail is stored online in the mailbox. I always have something in my inbox so I don't need to be notified that I have (read) mail in my inbox, just the new messages. (awesome program, btw!)

Not sure why that would happen. You may have to install net Framework 3.5. Because I have compiled it using the very latest beta of MS Visual Studio; which uses Net 3.5. It is suppose to be backwards compatible with earlier frameworks but maybe a few commands are not.
