9860 continuous reboot

Thread Starter
Last night while gaming my 9860 just suddenly shut itself down and would not turn back on. It was hot but not what I would consider "dangerously" so.

What really worried me was that all the lights were out on the computer (even the one indicating that it had power). I unplugged everything and let it sit overnight to cool. Then today I plugged it back in and tried to boot it up. It now crashes randomly on it's way to booting up into windows. No errors, no apparent consistency, it just crashes sometime between the memory check and when the log in screen would appear. It just continuously reboots.

I wonder if this is a memory issue (perhaps the memory got too hot and burned itself out) as I've had memory issues before and this seems a little similiar. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced similiar issues. Or had anything else I might check.

Replacing 2GB of RAM will be a pain, but would be a lot better than replacing
the whole thing.

Get a copy of Memtest 86 and create a bootable CD from the ISO image here: http://www.memtest86.com/#download0

Then you can determine if it is a memory problem or not.

before swapping out all the mem at once check them one at a time to see if they are bad. might only be one bad piece of mem.
