eMachines M6805 3dmark2003 = 3407!!

was shooting for 3k but didn't think it would score 400 points higher!

combination of clockgen and atitool. Not bad for a $1,299 machine, huh?

*Edit* I changed the title to reflect the score accurately of 3401 not 3407. Sorry about that initial typo.

How much of an OC were you able to get on the CPU with clockgen?

I was able to run it from 1.8Ghz to 2.15Ghz by increasing the fsb only. I kept the vcore at stock, which I believe is 1.4V.

I sooooooooo wish some brave soul with one of these would open it up and take pics so we could find out for real whether it uses a socketed CPU, etc. If I could only pop a 3400+ in there I would just have to get one of these even if I don't really need it.

I am definitely impressed. That's an awesome score.

Nevermind on that earlier post - now that someone HAS taken it apart and taken lots of pics, I think I'll just have to get one.

where did you see it taken apart? Can you provide a link here? I would love to see the insides.

That is just sooooo sweet!! I would trade any Playboy magazine for a magazine showing laptops inside!!!

I'm more curious about what's it score under 3dMark 2001? Still using it, I find it to still be the best predictor of performance....

11780 was my score for 3dmark2001. I probably could have gotten it over 12k, but I share this notebook with my wife, and I'd hate to damage any components by overclocking it "too" much.

So, from those inside pictures can we assume that eMachine is using a desktop version of AMD 64?
Thread Starter
its not a DRT. A desktop replacement only has 512kb of cache, whereas the regular mobile athlon64 has 1024.

Cpu-z will verify the cache amount if you want to check yours.

Ahh... Thanks, but can I just pop a desktop AMD 64 in the eMachine?

Since I am fairly new to this, I am wondering how easy clockgen is to use?
I already looked at Atitool and I'm not ready to start messing with that yet!

I'm on the clockgen site now checking it out, but don't really want to mess anything up on my New laptop! I guess I would be safe to just bump up the FSB a little at a time, right? Anywhere I should go to read more about this?

Thanks

To anyone who can answer.........How can I get the Clockgen and ATI tool to stick when I reboot?
I dont know how to get it to stay after reboot, maybe you need to put in your startup folder or something.

I am curious as to how hihg others have pushed this thing. Any one got a higher score than 3401?

Also, I take it that the multiplier on the athlon 64 3000+ is locked, or there is just no way to change it in the bios. I also assume that the pci and agp clocks are not locked since they are getting out of spec when the fsb is increased. So, the only way to overclock is to up the fsb? Can any one verify this?

Thanks

Although I am sure I don't have the highest 3dmark03 score with a m6805, ive yet to see anyone with one higher.

Which Version of ClockGen did you use for your 6805? Which version of the ATITool?

How does this compare with using something like the Omega Driver

The Laptop cooler is a great place to start.

You were fairly methodical in your upgrade. Approach OC'ing in the same way. Carefully and step by step.

Do not OC both your video card and your CPU to begin with.
Pick one item to vary, and do not save the settings. ie: play with your video card first (it's the easiest). Slowly adjust the mem-clock (or core) upwards until you start to get artifacting or other annomilies. To test this you have to boot into a couple of 3d games. Once you have a max safe for mem-clock, drop the speed down a tiny bit (safety margin) then do core in the same way. If you want you can even set core back to default and test mem-clock and core seperate to see which should be maxed out first. Typically mem-clock yeilds better results then core.

Once you have your video card at a safe max, you can save it as default and move on to the CPU.

To OC a AMD64 is slightly more complex then OC'ing a AMD-XP (or other CPU without an imbedded memory controller).

How to OC an AMD64
