Annoying Problem - Disk Lag

I have tried a multitude of drivers and patches and I still get the odd 1/2 second lag. Whether I am typing a search in Google or clicking between menus. I get this 1/2 second lag as if the disk is constipated

Every 20seconds or so the disk has a little fit like it is parking the heads. Like a click.

I know its probably an XP thing and I am trying to figure out why it is doing it. I have reduced all the overhead so it is running at bear minimum. I will test it in Safe mode to see if it acts the same and get back to you. But if anyone has a clue what it could be let me know.

PS: I have all the cards disabled except the Ethernet. So no wireless or firewire is active.

I used to have that too, but since I uninstalled the wireless card and reinstalled it with the drivers off the AW site, it hasnt been a problem. I think the problem is that the wireless was seeking networks every X seconds.
