they dropped it because they are pushing the new 14.1 model notebook which is the e1405. EXACT same notebook as the m140 except that you can get dual core cpu, they upgraded to the 950 gpu from the 900 (not that big of a deal at ALL), and you can now get the screen in wxga (1280x800) or wxga+ (1440x900). you can only get truelife (glossy) in the wxga+.

this is the reason that the m140 were so cheap about a week ago, because they wanted to sell most of there m140 inventory. you can find then on the dell outlet website, you will have to look hard to find a good one though

It should have never had the XPS name in the first place, Dell made a mistake which they've now corrected.

I'd have to agree. I don't know why they gave it the XPS name. Isn't XPS supposed to mean "eXtreme Performance System"? The M140 was nice, but it was by no means Extreme Performance. If they were going for the smallest and lightest, it wasn't that either; even in their own line of notebooks.

I have heard a rumor that this month DELL will release a 12 inch core duo XPS notebook with a real graphics card. Not sure if this is really going to happen, but it would make good sense to me for DELL to have a small but powerful XPS notebook as part of its offering. The M140 should have never carried the XPS name considering its under powered graphics capablity . . . . . I guess DELL finally realized that.

That's the XPS M1210 which has a couple of threads here - it looks worthy of the XPS name.

That would be pretty slick if true.

The thing always took me about the M140 was its * Eight and a half * hour battery life. Granted you can certainly find other notebooks that are capable of that, but they are trash. No bluetooth, no wireless, probably no internal dvd drive, etc....

The M140 had all the fixings of a "true" XPS, but with a video card whos impact on the battery is negligble, thus, the 8+ hours of battery life. I love my Gen2 XPS for its portable gaming goodness, but when i'm not gaming.... Honestly, I'd like to deactivate my 6800 ultra for a very power efficient internal video card.

Very unlikely. Probably the best you can do is eBay the notebook and then buy the new XPS.

The XPS name was well established as a gaming brand, not for portability - the XPS M140 couldn't even match other notebooks in its class for gaming power never mind surpass them. I don't know what on earth you mean by 'true' XPS when the XPS 1 and 2 had virtually nothing to do with portability and everything to do with power, the opposite of the XPS M140.

Incidentally, my Sony TX can last about 13 hours on its extended battery and it's certainly not 'trash' - it has onboard bluetooth 2.0, wireless, dual layer dvd burner. There is no gaming implication nor would I expect one - the XPS m140 does have positive attributes but the XPS name was still a mistake.
