Members I have talked to about the issue of the forums chat being down say it was due to inactivity. I think it should be given another chance. If the chat was fixed I would definitely use it, and I'm sure other members would too.

Please vote whether or not you'd like to see the forums chat re-opened!

I vote yes, because I do everything nyako tells me to do. Also because doc's msn is broken somehow and I miss him.

Oh yes and the shut up duke option is implied.

When we had a chat system before, even when there were 50 or so users on there 24/7 so we could test the server, there was almost always absolutely NO conversation whenever I checked in. If it was actually used (and it would take several users who wanted to use it for it to actually be viable, in my opinion), then I would be all for reinstating it. I thought it was a cool idea when it first came out and I still do. But the rep threads seem to be more of the hangout spots around here, and people seemed previously to be more comfortable posting than chatting.

Agreed, the rep threads, at least for the repwhores, would probably remain the favored hangout most of the time. But as you know, lately the RET has been relatively inactive during the evening, for favor of MSN group conversations, which not everyone can join since not everyone has MSN. I'd prefer if all of us were at least able to join in these evening conversations if they wanted to.

In my opinion, behaviors have changed enough that giving the chat another run is worth it. If the chat proves to be successful this time, it could possibly mean faster tech help for people and less spam/repetitive threads.

you can always use the sR IRC or Ventrilo...they're public and open to everyone...just a thought

That defeats the purpose. We could always use MSN chat (which we do)... but the cool part about the chat is that it's integrated into NBF... not using some external app.

Actually, even though MSN conversations have picked up in frequency, I have noticed a general slowdown in the Experiment, at least, that is not simply accounted for by those in MSN. I think a part of it is just that it's a slower time of year for the forum because people in high school and college, the dominant forum demographic, are either involved in end-of-the-year projects, papers, and studying, or have recently finished and want to be more active away from their computers, or want to play more games and spend less time on the forum.

Also, the SrtrafeRight IRC chat seems to be somewhat sparse in conversation, from the little that I've seen, but I could just be going on at bad times as well, I suppose.

If the chat does become successful, I agree that it could be a valuable resource. But at present I'm not optimistic that there will be enough sustained interest to generate that success. However, if it starts up again and thrives, then I will be more than happy to be proved wrong.

I am in favor of it being re-instated as I have an absolute hate for instant messaging programs.
