Dell Inspiron 9300/9400 LCD exhange - your WXGA for my WUXGA!

I have had my WUXGA screen replaced by Dell 5 times since getting my m170 3 months ago. I find the high gloss on the panel far too distracting for my graphic design use and Dell finally agreed to replace my screen with the non-trulife 9400 screen (1440x900).

However they keep on sending the WUXGA screen - something keeps on getting switched at dispatch....This current screen is a Samsung with no dead pixels and next to no light leakage at the bottom. It's just the high res and glossiness I can't work with.

Anyhow, as I'm almost at the end of my tether I wondered if there was anyone in the UK with a pristine (no dead pixel etc) WXGA+ (1440x900) screen who would like to swap for my 1 week old WUXGA screen - anyone fancy an upgrade?

I understand that the Inspiron 9300/9400 WXGA+ & WUXGA screens are compatible with my M170 and vice versa, so there will be no compatibility issues I gather.

Are you sure about 9300/9400 compatibility? I seem to remember Dellbert saying they weren't compatible.

Really? Well, according to Dell they seem to be compatible. One of the replacement WUXGA screens i received was actually a 9300 part so i'm presuming they're the same..

I have a 1440x900 screen from a 9300 that has no dead pixels. Was purchased in December '05. I would love to trade for the higher res.

As would I but he did specify it had to be someone in the UK

If you swapped screens like this though wouldn't it void the warranty on the screen? So if anything happens to either screens you're SOL.

I'm presuming that yes, you would be out of warranty, although swapping displays is not a difficult task - you don't even need to gain access to the main body of the unit - its really simple.

As I'm based in the UK it's probably easier if I simply kept the shipping to this country, otherwise it may get rather expensive! Sorry for you folks abroad!

Edit: just seen how old this thread is. Doh

Misread the year

*** You have to swap the LCD LVDS as well. Else you could have voltage and pinout issues. (and burn something)
