I called spare parts and asked. That's all I did. I will say this, I spoke with a rep in the US. Most of the time I get someone in another country.

Thanks, didn't happen to catch the dell rep's extension did you? I tried again and the rep quoted a price of $1000. What exactly did you say when you talked to the rep?
I said I was looking for video upgrade options for my laptop. The rep checked and said the only thing available was a 256mb that was the same as what I already had. I said what about part number yf227 (not my exact words but I asked for it by part number). He put me on hold, came back and told me the price. I ordered. By the way Dell needs to get ride of DHL. As of this order I've sent 2 letters to the President of DHL and am writting a letter to Dell. This time, the driver wanted me to meet her about 5 miles away from my house to pick up my package.

As for the other part number, I have no idea about an extreme edition. I only asked for the yf227. Reps getting lax? Different call center? Not sure what it was but I can tell you that I think Dell's giving up a heck of a market by by not selling these cards at a decent price.

Does anyone know where i can get the geforce go 7900gs and if there are any other cards other than the radeon x1400 that are compatible for upgrade for the e1705, the Geforce 7900GTX is just too expensive for me. Thanks to anyone who helps me.

The whole point of this thread is we dont want to pay $1000 for the card.

Ya $1000 for a video card upgrade, when the damn laptop cost $12-$1300?

Thats ridiculous.
I can't lie. I paid $600 for mine. But damn at $700, I would probably buy a 7950 GX and sell my laptop and start building a desktop or shuttle.
the one thing i can sorta se eout of this here is if you call as a home user, Dell blocks you outright, but if you have a business account of some kind, you seem to have limited access to the cards.
Either that, or its an odd thing, but it might even just be, that from time to time Dell has a couple that are in stock, but they quickly get snapped up in no time and revert back to the default $1000.

I would be willing to pay $600, no more, considering the desktop versions of the 7900 GTX can be picked up for under $500 now

I have a 9400 with ATI x1400 which I tried to change to a 9700gs, and I got everything connected and in, but when I reasambled it and tried to start it the screen never shows anything, it's just black. while it's loading a little at start (just like it is loading bios) and then it just stops and nothing happens, and whatever I do I can't get anything on the screen
I even tried with a external screen, that is black aswell....

so what should I do? I can't see the problem

Edit: Fixed it, glich in the card

Can you get to the BIOS? Can you run the diagnostics? With the laptop off, Hold the FN key and press the power button and hold for about 3 seconds. See if you can find any info from these.
nope it was completly black, couldn't see anything, but I fixed it when I re-installed the card.

quetion ablout e1705 bios

i was checking the new bios for e1705 and it says 7900gs has support but does not mention anything about the 7900 gtx is the new bios going to regognize the 7900 gtx and if so is it going to send a 1.24 voltage to it cause the 7900gs only gets 1 volt?

Let me ask you guys something? Do you think it's even worth the $600 or so getting a 7900GTX, I just got my 3rd dell Laptop this week and clocked it to 625/1250 ran with no problems and at safe temps but untill i see more people running higher speeds i reset it to 600/1200, Thing is I'm get awsome FPS in games now and Hitting 9100+ scores in 3DMark05 and 5100+ scores in 3dMark06, The only reason I am condiering buying one is to for 1. future proof my lappy for gaming 2. take advantage of the 512MB of ram and the 24pp for future gaming. Even tho Vista\DX10 has me sweating caus ethese cards still a DX9 But from what i have read so far people clocking thier 7900GTX to 600/1400 and just barely reaching near the 10,000 mark on 3dMark05, I'm not sure that much of improvement justifies my throwing another $600, in this $3200 laptop thats a week old, what do you guys think?

Just called to order a Geforce Go 7900GTX and they told me that they no longer have it in stock and will not be selling it anymore. I had them check again and the only thing they could poll up was the desktop cards Whats up with this?
