I dont get it, I paid sround $250 fror mine, after selling my GS and I am stairing at it right now, It just got here and i am about to pop it in, I do some testing in a bit!
Well Put in the 7900GTX, went easy in unlike putting my 7800GTX in my other 9400 THAT WAS A Pain) Ran 1st test OC'ed to 600/1400 and ran 3Dmark05, Highest temp was only 72'-76' degrees and scored: 8919, strange tho... I was getting 8960 with my GS @ 600/1200 I guess I'll see the differnce in real game play due to the 24pp/8 and 512 MB, I still need to play around with this a bit i guess.

Ok, better on 3DMark 06: 5487 @1280x1024 2.0=2382, 3.0= 2285 CPU= 1657

Ran ATI tools for 30 min highest temp was 74' +/-1 but got just a little bit of artifacts , just barely speckeling, But looped 3mark bunch of times and played some games for a while and no problems at all, Thinking about maybe trying 575/725 on the clocks instead?

Used better drivers now getting 9640 in 3dmark05 with xtreme 91.31-2.40a much happier! never went over 82' and barely any if any at all artifacts in atitool I think 600 is going to be max for the core, but i am going to try 1450 on the memory.

look at the very first pic in this thread.
Its a silver metal keyboard mount thats on the right side if you look at your old card you'll see where theres an opening, but on the new card it off a bit, i used a round saw bit on a drill and carefully cut mine out then i had to bend one of the pipes just a tad, not even noticable and my card fit right in.<--that was for putting in a 7800GTX

For my main laptop i just poped my 7900GTX right in it fit like a glove, I didnt have to cut anything, I did have to slightly push back the metal thin covering that protects the inside of where the ac power plugs in, but that was nothing. <- putting in 7900GTX

installing graphics card

then y does he say he cut part of the bronze long metal thing with pliers?
I dont know, I didnt cut anything at all on mine, and mine squeezed right in. and my laptop is a brand new model the manufacture dates on both my laptops are 6/15/06 and 6/18/06 maybe that pic refers to the first versions of the 9400/e1705, I know the first e1705 i had purchased that i rma'd inside was a little different than the one i have now, for example the older versions had a rubber blocker on the left side where the heat pipe fits next to the cpu thermal assembley. The new ones now are plastic, and they reccomend to cut the plastic so the heatpipe sits lower, but i dint have to cut it mine fit fine.

e1705

you said "I did have to slightly push back the metal thin covering that protects the inside of where the ac power plugs in" what do you mean by that did you have to take out any screws or anything like that?
no no screw needed to be taken out, it looks like a metal tab you will see it just needs to be bend back like a centermeter to because its in the path where the left heatpipe goes. it's about as thick as a bic pen metal clip on a pen. Believe me it was no problems taking out my Single piped 7900 GS and putting in the 7900GTX. It literly took me less than 5 minutes to carefully remove the old card a carefully install the new. It's easy to figure out when you open the system and see it in front of you. It was a hell of alot easier than putting a 7800GTX in i was sweating bullets trying to cut medal that was sodered to the motherboard.

after you install the card does it automatically detect or do you have to install drivers? Also what if you have to format the comp. where can i get drivers to install the 7900 gtx??? Thnxxx!!!
You can ether goto dell and download the XPS 1710 stock nvidia drivers, or use(which it think are the best and most people on here will agree) EXtreme-M 91.31-2.40a drivers, here is the link:
http://www.tweaksrus.com/index.php?o...163&Itemid=41/

Like i had written before I have owned and overclocked all 4 Dell 7xxx series video cards & 6800 vanila, and these drivers always worked great on all of them.

Your question about stsrting up, if you restart the computer and if you had a GS in there originally, it will auto config the drivers for you, on dell the GS & GTX use the exact same drivers, I did the same thing I forgot to uninstall the drivers before changing cards and the windows install wizard auto set the gtx for me.

No, you dont need to format your computer, and you shouldnt need to change your bios. You do have a 9400\E1705, right? You should be able just to plug the card in and be good to go.
