That's a real good price! 6 weeks ago you were lucky if you could get your hands on one and if you did they cost like $1000, I got lucky with mine it ended up costing me $250 Brand new sealed in box w/warrenty from a Cerified Dell reseller. And I was also told they are going to seriously drop in price again in a month or so, if you noticed on Dell website how much prices have severly dropped over the last few weeks.

will a 6800go or 6800 ultra work with this laptop? i cant afford the 7900's
post #185 of 349
Yes, for a 9300 you can upgrade to a 6800 easily, a 6800U or 7800GTX would require flashing your bios with the hacked xps bios thats on the 9300 upgrade thread. There is no support or hacked bioses that i know of out there fro putting a 7900GS or 7900GTX in a 9300

Oh wait your specs say you have a 9300, where you talking about a 9400?
I just bought a Refurbed E1705. It has a 7800 Go in it and I called to see about getting a 7900GS. They said 360.00 for that part. How are you all getting these parts at such a good price? If I could find a GTX i'd snag it but they won't budge.
Well Do alot of buying, selling, and trading on-line and own a small local computer business, So i do get lucky sometimes and buy stuff well below wholesale, some parts are usally easier than others, For example I got lucky about 4 months ago and picked up 3 Brand New Radeon x1800xt's for $199 each and 2 Athlon 4400+ for $249 each, Kept one of each for myself (as you can see below for my desktop rig)for 4 months ago those were sick prices, sometimes you get lucky if distributors that i have accounts with have overstock or missorders but not that often. I'm in the process of appying to be a certified Dell reseller and tech. And the only reason I got the 7900GTX for a low price is because it cost me $499 Total. Then I sold a 7900GS for $269 that didnt cost me anything. Same thing for as for my 7800GTX, but that i did get a good deal at $269.00, but sold my 7800 on-line for the same price so it came out to be free. And I got into the computer industy 10 years ago just by networking localy and online and eventualy just built up.

I purchased my laptop for something to do at 3am when I am bored at the 911 center. No time during the day but night it gets a little slow and I have a little time to game or browse the net. Anyway, if you can get either of the 7900 cards at a decent price, let me know. I will buy one.

I just sold the last 7900 GS (Single Piped) on ebay for $229.00 and the dual piped for $279.00. I found a couple of ebayers selling 7800GTX, and some of them ending a $190 to $225, if you look around and take some time you can find them for cheap. I mostly deal in desktop parts, and an occasion I stock notebook ram and hard drives, This last couple of months I got lucky and got a hold of a few t2300-t2600 and a couple of vid cards for dell laptops. I hoping on this dell reseller thing going thru, especially with these laptops being so easy to upgrade. Last year i had a good stock of emachines M6809-M6811 I sold, and those were horriable to work on, gotta tear them open just to upgrade the ram in them.

thanks but i was talking about the 6800 on a dell 9400. any one tried it? im sure not everyone out there can afford a 7900 gs/gtx .then there would be no point in having my desktop.

If someone is interested in parting with their old card, I may be interested. Anything is better than this ATI 1400 128mb card I have in my E1705(9400)

I could of helped ya two weeks ago I got rid of a 7800.7800GTX, and a 7900GS for around $250, If i come across another 7xxx dell series card soon, I'll post up, but i usally deal in desktop parts, but the last two months laptop parts have become cheaper and more avalable from my distributors for some reason.

Another successful upgrade!

I now have a E1705 9400 T2500, 2GB 667 RAM, Nvidia Go 7800gtx.

The graphics card upgrade completes the transformation to a high performance laptop

I was sweating bullets but the 7800GTX in my 9400, Did you have to chop off that little metal keybord support thing that was connected to the motherboard that was in the way too? The 7900GTX is so much easier to put in, It's literly plug & play with no modding. I like these laptops tho... Everything in them are so easy to upgrade, I had an emachine M6811 last year, I had to take 1/2 the thing a part in peices just to put 1 stick of ram in, that laptop was a nightmare, only thing decent was they were DTR, so they used desktop cpu's, I had a 754pin 3700+ laying around and i was able to put one it and worked right off the bat.
