Do you have a part number for it. They told me that if it was not an option online then I cannot add it to the order.

Why don't you just take the one from your XPS gen 2? I mean that should work just fine.

If I didn't want that, let's say and I just took it off and didn't have any lights, is it possible that the card could work then? or will the computer not even startup? lol.

That's a great point darkloki. I don't if that's the lights connector. If it is I don't see why we can't just leave it unconnected, the laptop should be able to boot, I would think. But will the card fit over that connector though? Everything else looks to be identical.

Seems promising.

OK bad news for the 9300/XPS2/M170 owners. Looks like the 7900 GTX will not fit into our mobo. Here's a pic of mbosys's 9400 with the 7900GTX and my 9300 with the 7800GTX. See where the red circle is, big problem.

Damn that sucks.

Selling the XPS 2 so that's why I can't.

The brackets around the left fan vent is what needs to be cut out. The 9300 just had rubber tabs you would pull out... but the 9400 has a slightly different chassis than the m1710/M90 models - SmartCard readers and meant for dual heatpipe video cards. When you receive your machine you can pop it open and it'll all make sense.

OK, so what if you buy the lowest end E1705? Can you still install the 7900GTX? OR do you have to order it with the 7800?

I see you have the 1400 video... implying the swap can be done to a 7x00 vid. Any guess on the integrated 950? My guess is no, but with a system configured in my "wish list" Im hoping for confirmation before ordering.
integrated is that..it's inegrated and can't be upgraded
post #36 of 349
Doh! No surprise really. On the 1400?

Nice work man on getting the NVIDIA 7900 Go GTX to work know that I know that it will fit all we have to do is to wait for Dell to have the spare parts so we can order them
post #38 of 349
as long as the laptop is purchased with an upgrade card, the x1400, 7800go or the 7900's, you can switch between them, but if you get the integrated graphics, no upgrade can be done, i think actually one person sucessfully managed to do ALOT of work and got a x1400 working, though he fried a 6800ultra in the process, not worth it in my view.
Buy a notebook with the X1400, you can swap to a better one of your choice.

Im a short bit from buying a 1705 but its only $33 difference between the 1400 and 7800 cards - no brainer there! Thank you thank you for the response though

x1400 models will be able to upgrade just like a 7800 model. The only ones that can't are GMA950 models - the external video card connector on those models is actually not tapped into the bus.
