I'll be getting in a 7900GTX for my e1705 this week. Still running it on a 90W power adapter (I have a 130W one coming). I had a single pipe 7900GS in it before. Will the 7900GTX work with the 90W power supply even if it is at reduced performance and also there is no graphics card fan in my e1705, I've ordered one to install as well but both the 130W adapter and fan won't arrive until after the 7900GTX does. assuming I turn down the performance settings on the new card should it still run?

Why dont you have a fan? I hope the system you are trying to upgrade didnt originally come with integrated graphics. I mean you could run the card fanless provided you dont do anything stressful and since you will be operating at reduced frequencies due to the power brick, I guess that will make it a bit easier. The bios typically has the fans off anyway on idle I believe. I have some posts here regarding fans off versus fans on and their effects.

OMG you need a Fan, hell I think I'd take 3-4 fans if it was at all possible. I mean why are people buying coolers? lol.

I don't know why there isn't a fan. The system isn't integrated graphics, it was originally a 256mb 7900GS, single pipe, I'm replacing the GS because there is some messed up stuff going on with the computer at the moment and my suspicions are that the gpu has died. (possibly because there wasn't a fan, though it worked fine for a year and I run the gambit with games)

Just on eBay, there were about 4 used system pulls sitting on there and a couple of new 7950GTX's. I paid 250 for the 7900 GTX and I think the 7950's were another $100

Ok so we're recommended to get the PA-13 power supply. But has anyone used both the xps 1st gen and xps 2nd gen?? Whats the difference? Which is better? These are the links I found on dell for the two power supplies:

1st gen

2nd gen

Quick question for you guys. I bought a 7900GTX off of ebay to put in my E1705. I went to install it last night and I can't seem to get anything out of it. The screen will light up, but I don't get a bios screen and the hard drive never does anything like its booting without showing a picture. I'm 90% convinced that the card is just bad, but is there something I could be missing? I have the A09 Bios, are any of you running this bios successfully with the 7900gtx? I can put the 7900GS back in and it will fire right back up, any ideas?

How well does the 7950GTX run STALKER at resolutions like 1650x1050?

My 7900GS runs like crap. Constant FPS drops and all that sh*t.
