Hi I have 9400 and i just bought 7950GTX and pa-15 150W power adaptor, but my Laptop doesn't want to work with it. I didn't switch the graphic card yet. Still got radeon x1400. I don't want to do that till i solve problem with the charger. His runing on that adaptor but don't want to charge the battery and he lower the speed of CPU...
Can somebody give me some advice?

go into the BIOS and see if it identifies the adaptor properly.

But from the sounds of it, your adpator needs to be replaced.

Is it worth purchasing a 7950GTX from a 7900GS?

How much more performance is there?

And is there a better card other than 7950GTX?
And overclocked 7900GS can run pretty close to a 7900GTX but you would definitely see a marked improvement giong to a 7950GTX given higher clock speeds and double Video memory.

There is no better card than a 7950GTX for a M1710/E1705/9400/M90 etc.

If you have a E1705/9400 a minor case mod is required for the second heat pipe.

The 7900gtx is identical in every way to the 7950 except 1 . it's slightly overclocked.

getting the 7900 is a better idea than the 7950 because it is cheaper and it can oc just as good as the 7950. they are the same card 1:1except it's factory oc'd.

The 7900gs can get close in 3dmarks to 7900gtx yes. but gameplay no way. higher res'es can woop the 7900gs'es ass!. and more texture memory and better bus too.

so my 7900 gs died in my 9400 (displaying a distorted image with yellow line things) and i ordered a new one off ebay. the auction had it listed as a 7900 gs but the picture showed it dual piped. I figured either the seller didn't know that he had a gtx or the gs came dual piped. Does anyone know? also if it is a gs just dual piped will i need the bigger power brick? i dont think I would since its just the difference of a cooler right? (I'm hoping the guy didn't know he had a gtx)
There are dual pipe GS's. The dual pipe ones were the GS's that we're put into the XPS notebooks. My 7900 gs single pipe just died on me too. I'm in search of a new 7950 gtx now. I might as well use the opportunity to upgrade. Anyone know what a good price on these are now?
You'll see them for $250-$375 mostly with most prices being 300+ I suppose.

so wait i dont get it, the new card covers the CPU?

It essentially moves from one part of the laptop to another?

and whats up with the white tape?

Just asking cuz im considering this upgrade myself, but i just need to cough up the balls and pray i dont break something
post #317 of 349
No, the new card doesn't cover the CPU, just goes over the chipset heatsink. You have to use a pair of pliers to break a small piece of the bottom case out. It is not hard.

Is this the power adapter that I need? http://cgi.ebay.com/Laptop-AC-Adapte...2em118Q2el1247
post #319 of 349
Should I buy an OEM dell 130w power adapater or will the generic ebay ones work just fine? I allready bought my video card and I wanted to buy this power brick today I don't want to get the wrong one.
