What the hell is this? I really get the feeling they're like driving up the cost, I mean they include a Razorback mouse, too. but I definately want to get it so that I can sport this laptop with an Alienware Backpack, Pen, Polo Shirt, Pants, key Chain, Pocket Protector and Alienware Lunch Box. The Kids at school with the Dell LunchBoxes won't even know what hit them.

Well you asked for what does Alienware make besides the lid,well..... I think that's your list.

I just got my M1710 and I love it. At this point I wouldn't even consider sending it back to get a Dellienware, even if it does have SLi. I am a HARDCORE LANner, and that was the reason I got the M1710. But if there is something that it can't handle (which is highly unlikely at this point) I can always use my desktop (sig) and that has plenty of power to kick the living crap out of ANYTHING on the market right now. I mean my desktop would own the mALX and cost about $1500 less. Sure you get a little more "portability" with the mALX, but the cost is just too high. The DW's are nice, the 9700 has a lot going for it, the mALX is COMPLETELY overpriced and as Loki said above me, you are basically paying for all the "extras" that DW gives you for being an ALX customer. I'll take me XPS service and CC over their ALX crap anyday.

This is a very smooth for Dell and Alienware. They are engaged in market segnmentation, where neither brand does not canabolize each other. Since Dell own Alienware, Alienware now can recieve parts faster and cheaper. Just a thought. Have fun!!

Woaa, killer laptop...

BUT....

I can think of more things to buy than that for $4500. Thats a house payment. Or a very good bit of a car.

actually, AW is being run as a subsidiary under all it's own resources. Dell just owns them nothing else. they have their own manufacturing, support and sales. I doubt just because dell "owns" them they will get parts faster since it's not "dell" buying them but "Alienware" buying them. edit: as in unless dell sells the parts to AW, they can't get them any faster or cheaper becuase they still don't have they buying power of Dell.

While this is a valid argument right at this moment, come august and merom the M1710 with be both 64bit AND Dual Core, whereas the Turion has no Dual Core path in the forseeable future.

Yeah but as a gamer, I see having 2 GPU's being more beneficial then having 2 CPU's

Agreed but as a gamer it makes more sense to get a desktop if you want SLI. The laptop stops being a portable computer once you bulk it up that much.
Did you even look at the Alienware 17 inch SLI? I belive this laptop to be the same size
post #54 of 66
Specs look great, but come on. For 1500$ I can build a desktop SLI 7900GT that will be near equal and better in most cases. There is really a limit on what I spend on a laptop. But hey I guess if people have the dough why not. Right now the XPS M170/1710/Sager 5720 is about bordering line for a high performace portable laptop. I mean I get about 3 hours from my Dell M170 just surfing the net, that thing must get 1 hour tops.

Hey this is Darkloki, I know I like to post dorky pictures of me doing stupid things and thinking everyone is just laughing with me and not at me *wink* *wink* but that is no reason to ban me!!

But I'm still cool with my MTV DragonballZ hairstyle!!! and dumping on the
M1710 every chance I get!!

Yeah I saw it and that's why I said it makes more sense to just get a desktop if you want to go SLI. Adding in all those powerhungry and hot components in a small box is overdoing it - even shuttles have hard time coping w/the heat and this thing is even smaller than that.

Alienware cannot touch Dells build quality/customer support... please take this into consideration before buying an alienware... Everyone I know with Alienware has heat problems, why do people buy these things? For $3k you can get a M1710 and have a super gaming machine plus great support...

EDIT: OK, so I'm still wating for my Dell but considering what I have so far experienced of Dell's customer support and AW Quality control standards, in my opinion, Dell is way out in front.
