M90 - Quadro FX 1500M performance

I know the 2500M graphics card has been discussed here as the workstation version of the 7900 GTX and being equivalent in performance (after some overclocking). Is the gaming performance of the 1500M comparable to the 7900 GS? I'm not much of a gamer but just curious.

It appears that it is. If it is like the 2500m you don't need to overclock to be on par with geforce 7900. Run some benchmarks and test your card.

I am also interested to know how the 1500M performs, anyone got 3dmark results for it they can post?

Small disclaimer - all scores were achieved in Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (including SQL Server 2005 and Virtual Server 2005 R2 services running).

3dmark05 = 6296
3dmark03 = 13,946
3dmark06 = 3484

Contrary to popular belief, quadros sometimes acctually get better gaming results, but hardly ever worse like people want to say.

Thanks for the 3dmark results, they look very good. I did not expect them to be so high, that is one awesome card!

I have another question though. I need to work with CAD applications and the Quadro FX cards are very powerful from what we have seen and they work well for gaming.

But are the non "CAD" cards like the nVidia Go cards also good for CAD applications or is it just the Quadro FX cards who are very versatile? Since nVidia cards are cheaper might it be just the same to get one of those instead of the Quadro FX cards?

Awesome thanks for sharing!

CAD really isn't video card intensive. You really only see benefits of quadros over geforces when it comes to 3d modeling. So really, any card will run CAD just fine. If you ever do 3d work, get a high end gaming card or a quadro (not NVS).

I believe nowadays that most cad programs operate in 3d using openGL for the wireframes. So in this instance, the Quadro card would be better since it is openGL optimized. the only time I can think that a cad program today doesn't use 3d modelling is when doing 2d objects like circuit board design

the 1500 is just the 7900GS core with a different bios to let the drivers know its a quadro. O/C that sucker and see 7.5-8K fall in 05. Are the 1500's dual piped cards, or single?

Trust me, AutoCAD will run on anything.

Yup plain jane CAD apps like Autocad, jewelcad will be fine. They are more cpu/ram intensive. Apps like Inventor, Solidworks PRO/e, 3DSMAX, MAYA, XSI will work the Quadro out somewhat.

On a quick side note, i absolutley love my m90, it had played several hours of COD2 with everything maxed out in the graphics settings and have done some pretty heavy modelling and Inventor stuff to boot.

Wow, those scores are awfully close to its big brother (2500M). Is it worth investing on the 2500M over the 1500M? I plan on using my M90 for mostly games and video editing (HDV). I hear that the battery consumption with 2500M is drastically higher.

PS - First post!

With 3d Mark 05 I got something like 8594 on my M90 2500m machine out of the box. Approx 36% increase or thereabouts

I have purchased mine through eBay and it was listed as having a 512MB video card. I spoke with the seller about it and requested that I get $200 back (I paid $2100 for it) or a full refund. He contacted Dell and it appears to have been a mistake on their part as his packing slip shows the 512MB card. He said he is going to have them ship me the 512MB video card. Is it easy to install it or should I have them do it for me? How much you guys think I can make for my 1500M card?

The 1500M is still quite a powerful card. I run F.E.A.R. at max settings, even with Soft Shadows, and I have no problems. Only lag comes from RAM; I only have 1GB. Specs and scores are in sig, no overclocking. And Solid Edge runs completely smoothly with 16xAA no problems. But Solid Edge isn't really the best... just what my school decides to use.

WXGA screen @ 1280x800?

If so, your FX 1500M score is dead on with the Go7900 GS at the same resolution.

Yes, it was at 1280x800 resolution. And yes, as far as I have seen, the 1500M does perform dead on with a Go7900 GS. I'm very happy with it.
