Someone mentioned Alienware in this quality discussion. One thing most people don't know and it is very important is that Alienware doesn't build their own systems. Mind you, Dell doesn't either, but it breaks down something like this:
So far, I've seen Alienware models built by Clevo, Arima, and Compal
Dell Inspiron is made by Compal I'm told, but I can't confirm that
Dell Latitude is made by Quanta
So, now it's no longer a discussion of whether Dell is good quality, but whether or not Compal or Quanta are good quality. I had an Alienware a few years ago, when I was a noob and didn't know this info so I'm not sure what brand it was, but it was an utter piece of junk. I sent it back in two days. My Dell Inspiron is above average quality, and we have two Dell Latitudes at work that get hammered on and wet and dirty all the time and they're still going strong. From what I've heard and experienced, Quanta (Dell Latitude) and Arima are about the best. I've yet to have an Arima but the new Alienware m9700 is Arima, so read reviews on it if you're curious.
I think they used a Precision, but click this link and watch the video at the bottom, the Australian test. http://www.dell.com/content/topics/g...=us&l=en&s=gen
Really neat video.
