Has anyone have scratches on their Pavilion dv5000t?

I went to the shop to get my notebook as the salesman that I was dealing with called me to say my unit has arrived, and that it is ready for pick up. I was very happy that I would finally be able to get it as I was suppose to get it on Tuesday but it was pushed back to today. However when I arrived there, the salesman called in sick for the day and I was dealing with a different person. This person was not very friendly and tried to raise the price I had agreed with the other salesperson. After much arguing and haggling , I got the price that I negotiated with the other salesman and was relieved.

This is the part where I wanted to kick the salesman all the way to Timbuktu . When he brought out the unit, I noticed the box was already opened and upon opening the lid, the black bezel surrounding the keyboard was full of scratches . I didn't want to pay for that unit and I asked for another unit. The salesman flatly denied it and said that it was the last unit and it was an obsolete model . He also said they won't be ordering any new units and the one they had was the last one. Suffice to say, I called the other salesman and told him what happenned and he agreed that he would order straight away and he did. When I told the other salesman, he immediately made a last ditch attempt to try and sell it to me but I would have none of it. So here I am, very, very sad and depressed because I wanted to use my notebook for my work that I have to send in next week but instead I'll have to use my old notebook instead.

My question however is that when you receive a new unit, does it have a lot of scratches or only a little, or not at all? Is there also a piece of tape surrounding the notebook to protect the bezel cover? Please tell me because I really want that notebook but would really like to know about these scratches.

You need to shop somewhere else. Those are big time cheaters there

My notebook had no flaws anywhere and there shouldn't be on a new notebook.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

I knew it . The problem is the other places I shopped tried to blackmail me. There's one shop which is selling the notebook at a much higher price but they have a much larger stock. When I asked the guy at the shop, he said if you want, I can open a new box for you and you can see a unit but when the unit is perfect, you have to buy it straight away. I wasn't going to be held to ransom so I went off.

Thank you for the response. Now I have evidence that I can show so that if my new unit has scratches, I'll just show this thread. However, I would like to ask, is there a tape or protection when you receive the notebook?

He also said the Pavilion dv5000t is obsolete and that a new model has just been released (which in this case is the dv2000t). He also said that there will not manufacture the dv5000t anymore and that the newer model will have more features . Give me a break, I'm not that stupid .

Most of the time, a new notebook will have a thin styrofoam sheet between the LCD & the keyboard. My old notebook did, heh kinda funny that my new one straight from HP did not. But anyways.. No scratches here.

I can 2nd that i recieved my dv8000t about 3 weeks ago, and it had scratches all over the keyboard surround just like your 5000. Needless to say they put the wrong cd burner in it( was suppose to be lightscribe) so what i think they did was just send me a returned unit for which they thought had lightscribe.

But I bitched for about 2 weeks and my new laptop is on its way :P And i got them to give me 2 gigs of ram for free, instead of the 1 gig i had in the original

If this one has scratches again, they will be getting a call from me.
