E1705 - Screen off with closed lid?

I upgraded my E1705 to the A01 BIOS (yay, standby works now) but I noticed the screen stays on when the lid is closed. I am nearly positive that prior to the A01 BIOS closing the lid triggered a screen off (or at least backlight off). Anyone else have this issue? Or am I whacked and the screen stayed on with the A00 BIOS also?

Mine has the same problem. At the moment i am using an utility called powerOff to manually turn it off everytime. Pretty anoying. I have tried contacting Dell, but with no luck. Not even a reply.

Opposite problem

I have the opposite problem. When I close my screen the lcd goes off and will NEVER come back on! I have to reboot the machine! I also use the A01 bios... Go Figure

You mean the screen's not shutting down even after you set the laptop to go to standy with lid closed in the Power Management settings?

notebookmaniac, your problem will probably be fixed with a fresh Windows reinstall, might be a easier way but I don't know it.

Yeah, mine did this for awhile before it stopped turning off. Try closing the lid and opening it again, it seems to fix the problem for me almost every time.

No, I mean the backlight stays on even though the lid is closed. Every laptop I have encountered previously turns off the backlight when this lid is closed since it serves no purpose and only uses power unnecessarily.

Yikes, that's a bit drastic and probably won't help. I don't think this is a windows problem, I believe something is just not quite perfect with Dell's BIOS relating to lid-close events.

did you check display property (right click on desktop)? Which allows you to set different actions when the lid is closed.

Those are the ACPI options for the lid close - (Do nothing, Standyby, Hibernate). Turning the screen off is not controlled by this.
