t60/t60p graphics

I have been carefully searching for the "perfect" laptop. Haven't found it yet, but the t60/t60p appears to come the closest. Would be if it had S-video and a firewire port. I wonder if those of you who have more experience with laptops could help me.

I really would like a t60 with a 14" screen for portability, but I think I would be happier with the Flexview screen only offered in the 15" form factor. I certainly don't want to have the 9-cell battery extending out the back of the laptop though so I will choose the 6-cell when I place my order. I'm guessing this will result in a decrease of about an hour in battery life. Not too happy about that.

The t60p is now on sale through 5/15 for $2199. This is actually cheaper than a similarly equipped t60. The difference is the graphics card. The t60 has the 128 MB ATI x1400 and the t60p has the 256 MB FireGL 5200. While I welcome the extra memory in the FireGL card, I don't really need it. For the cost savings I would consider it, but I am concerned about possible heat and power consumption issues with the FireGL. Can anyone speak to these heat and power concerns? Is the FireGL card with more memory better than the x1400 in all applications?

Thanks for your assistance.

The v5200 is actually a x1600. on 3dmark05, it gets 1000 pts more than a x1400. 2000 to 3000. The power consumption i heard is more but I don't know how much more. I don't think there will be a significant increase in the two although there is a great increase between integrated vs. dedicated.

Where are you seeing the t60p for 2199? What model number? I'm interested in it too.

Also a 15" will eat way more battery life than a 14". I would stick with the 14" if battery life if important to you.

The t60p was on sale when I made my original post. It was about $400 off. I would like the 14" for the extra battery life and increased portability. But, Lenovo still doesn't have a 14" Flexview on the t60 series. I have been looking at the new r60 series. It has all the ports I want but doesn't have the Flexview. Perhaps when the Merom laptops come out, I will find all the features I want in a single laptop.

Flexview screens are only made in 15", not 14". It's been that way for years; I wouldn't hold my breath on a 14" flexview coming out anytime soon.

I don't know how reliable his information is but a Lenovo sales representative that I corresponded with on May 12th said, "...there are models expected out shortly (I do not have an exact date) that should have the Flexview technology on a 14 inch screen." I can wait a few weeks for a laptop. I'll probably wait until after the Merom comes out to see what options are available at that time.

Wow that would be awesome. I hope I'm wrong!

can flexview come with the glossy version?

If I get a t60p now. Can i just upgrade the lcd to flexview later when it comes out?

The Flexview does not come glossy.

These people will convert the Flexview or any other matte screen to glossy for $100 if you mail it to them or for $50 if you buy it from them:

Lenovo's part # for the Flexview screen for the X60p is 13N7076. The screen is the BOE-Hydis HV150UX1, 15.0" UXGA (1600x1200).

By the way, Lenovo's part # for the Flexview screen for the X60 is 13N7078, and the screen is the LG-Phillips LP150E05 (A), 15.1" SXGA+ (1400x1050).

If anyone gets the glossy conversion on a Flexview screen, I would like to read a before-and-after comparison!
