$80 DELL DVD+RW Drive for 9100/XPS

Thread Starter
I was looking at the DELL parts site and noticed that there is a DVD+RW drive for $80 bucks for the 9100/XPS. The only thing is the drive in the picture does not look like it will fit a 9100/XPS. What do you think? Maybe they just posted the wrong picture.

Heres a link.

There's a dummy bezel on it. You probably have to swap it.

You should know that that drive will not burn DVD-R and DVD-RW discs

Was there a firmware hack to enable DVD-R support?

That is the drive I yanked from my XPS Gen 1 to install this ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827152069 ) drive.

The silver bezel doesn't fit so the NEC's black face shows. The silver eject/lock mechanism does fit. It is supposed to be an 8x +- DVD burner but it actually burns closer to 4 or 5x maximum. I bet the Pioneer drive will fit as well.
