Project Looking Glass !

Check this out, this is a really cool future Sun Java 3D Desktop. I think it's much more advance than what Longhorn will be able to do when it come out in the year 2005.

I couldn't see the demo, its REAL. Can't stand REAL. They should put it into something less obnoxious.

I'm using Real Alternative and QuickTime Alternative on my Firebird. It's much leaner and faster than the comercial version and lots of news site are still uisng Real and QuickTime.

I'm with Marquis. Real sux.
Kasteo is Real Alternative just a codec or a player that eats .rm files?

It's a codec, but the suite also come with Media Player Classic. You can select option what feature you want to install. I personally love Media Player Classic, it's small, fast, and can get it job done without a longer load time of Media Player 9.

Check it out here....

Thanks for the link dude.

Microsoft is trying to replace Java...Windows Longhorn would be built around .NET and rely entirely on managed code, which means no more compiling to machine code. C++ will become obselete on Windows. But so far .NET only works on Windows. After seeing this, it seems Java can also replace Windows...with the JVM as the core and looking glass as the Shell...I wonder how this would turn out.

Sorta kinda.

Two other things to note/add to that tho:

- Longhorn IS supposed to have a lot of its functionality written as managed code, but not all of it. Also, that doesn't preclude C++ still being used unmanaged code OR managed code. (I've recently written some C++ managed code on a project)

- Both current .NET Linux projects have progressed far enough that there is very little .Net functionality that is not also available under Linux.

When I said C++, I implied the pure C++ that compiles to machine code. Managed C++ seems to be an oxymoron of sorts. I did not know about .NET for Linux. Guess Microsoft is pusing it's full plan into motion. It may not necessarily be a bad thing. If all future Longhorn programs can run under any system with .NET Platform, we may finally have a choice of OE.

Those are very interesting about the future of .Net and Java. From the video, those Project Looking Glass demo run on only a laptop. Yes, it's only a small laptop, not a powerful desktop or desktop replacement type(Sager). They can run 2 videos and still be able to do other 3D stuffs smoothly.
That is an interesting speculation, especially since Java code is not known for speed or efficiency...

Check out www.3dna.net. Their 3D desktop system is really cool. If our computers are fast enough so that having that kind of eyecandy does not affect performance, then their stuff is good to have. But as it stands now it is really impractical...
Well, as far as I can see, it's all eyecandy, nothing really functionally amazing. It will become a CPU Time hole. In fact, most of those effects are easily done through graphics cards...

On another note, it would be really neat to have I'm sure that it will run on linux, which I hope I can EVENTUALLY install on my sager....

I also know that there are probably windows shell replacements that could do that easily. Let's not forget the last time Microsoft tried to make it more user-friendly and 3D (MS Bob)
