1) Find the Password Chip: This is usually a small 8-pin chip, approx. 5 x 6mm. Security chip is usually marked with one of the following designations (or just a portion of the complete number, i.e. '02' instead of '24C02'):<24C01, 24C02, C02, 24C04, 24C08, 24C16, 24C164, 93C46, C46, 93C56>To locate the security chip, you must remove the system board completely from the laptop andcarefully and systematically examine the entire system board to locate all 8-pin chips with any of thedesignations indicated above. Often, there are two chips (i.e. a 'C46' and a '24C08'), only one of which is the security chip. If more than one chip is found, please contact us before removing any of the chips and send us detailed pictures showing the exact location of these chips so that we can determine which one is most likely to be the security chip. If a single security chip isfound, proceed to Step 2: Remove the Security Chip. 2) Remove the Password Chip. Before starting, be sure to note the position of pin 1 so the new chip can be installed correctly (usually a small depression or dot on the top corner of the IC). Being very careful not to damage the PCB, remove the chip by cutting the legs of the existing chip one by one, approximately halfway between the chip and the system board, using a very fine wire cutter or carefully unsolder the existing chip with a fine tipped soldering iron or with a hot air station.Remove the old chip and place it into the ESD-protective pouch.
