Mediadirect and divx or other codecs

Is it possible to install codecs like divx or indeo into mediadirect. I get an error "video format not supported" when I play such files. I have these codecs installed in WinXP and I can use other media players to play the same files. My problem occurs when I want to boot directly into mediadirect and files fail to play since WinXP is not loaded. Thanks for any input.

If we're talking about MediaDirect 2.0....

You might be able to in a round-about-way. I think you'd be looking at abandoning the MediaDirect host-protected area files and creating a MediaDirect partition that you could potentially access and modify.

fwiw... Windows is loaded during MediaDirect, it's just that it is a VERY slimmed down version with limited hardware drivers, etc. You just cant' 'see' it because of the MediaDirect interface.

Thanks for your reply. How do I go about creating this new MediaDirect partition that I can modify/access? Also this slimmed down version of Windows that loads, is the nature of the slimness static or can I modify it? Thanks

How do I go about creating this new MediaDirect partition that I can modify/access? Kind of depends on how you'd like to access the partition. There are two methods to launch MediaDirect from a partition.... Using the MediaDirect button from Power OFF or using the Windows boot.ini file from a 'normal' boot. Option 1 is a little more complex. Also this slimmed down version of Windows that loads, is the nature of the slimness static or can I modify it? You should be able to....

I take it that it isnt possible to "un" protect a partition then make it viewable?

I have a working version of MD that came with my 1705 and would rather not delete/create partitions (given some others trouble). If one could make it viewable it seems to me they could then drop the needed files in place to allow for "run" commands

Alternatively, what about a "media" based script. Something embedded in a file that would add taskmgr to the right directory and/or execute it?
